Cat question?

I find myself needing your help. I have some very fast mono's, hydro's and riggers, and a nice F1 hull or two but my fleet seems unfinished. I WANT A CAT !
The problem is which one.
The Mean Machine is a fine hull from all accounts but is a bit small and looks outdated. The ebay specials look ok but..............................
The Toysport is just way to expensive.
Have been looking at a H & M Intruder S good price and looks HOT but can not find any info on just how good they are as in handling and top speed of the hull.
Have a spare 1515 1y and hydra 240 as well as most of the hardware needed.
Has anyone set one up? Or is there a better well priced hull out there.

I'm in exactly the same situation. My Drifter S with the 1515 1Y & Hydra 240 goes all squiggly at speeds in the low 60's . I'm looking hard at the e-bay copies, like the better handling of the MM but don't like it's looks either. Ideas anyone ? Hoping to find a hull that corners better than King Henry XIII.

I would definitely give a try to those cheap ebay cat, no matter if they are copies of whatever, the DF copies are really worth the money!... and that's very few money compared to others!

I have used Intruder S on the way that I purchased from a gentleman back east... From all accounts, after doing much research, It's suppose to be a very good hull... Fast, but still good handling... I think 31" long... They ran it with BJ26 power in LSO form... I think it's suppose to arrive today or tomorrow... When it gets here, I'll get some good pics of it and post them. Everyone I've talked to about them says they are very good race boats...

Andy, the H&M M1 Supercat is another option. It is wider than the other H&M designs and because of that it is more stable in the corners but it is not as sexy as some of the other designs.

Another option is the AC Lightning. Like all AC cats it is a bit odd looking, but it is easy to tape up and the performance of all Andy's cats is top drawer.

That's right... I had forgotten to mention that one... it was the one I was going to buy (on Jay'd recommendation) had I not come across the Intruder S for sale...

I just opened up the Intruder... I'll get some nice pics of it to post later, but I have to say... it's a REALLY nice hull... quality-wise, anyhow... I won't speak to how it races until I actually try it....

Thanks for all the input guy's. The Lightning Cat looks great. How well does it handle at 60+mph speeds only being 27.75" long? the price is right, it looks OK maybe not as horn as the Intruder but still good.

A friend I meet on-line runs a hydro from these folks and never stops talking about how much he likes it. Just another option.

The Smith's cat in the link above gets my vote for looks Andy. That is one low, lean cat and looks better than Anna Coren

I doubt you'll get it to 60+ with that setup, unless you are trying for SAW type running. Local heat racing setups with hydros running 1515/1Ys on 4S are in the low- to mid-50s. The Lightning runs well in the upper 40s, which is its design speed. You'll have a lot of trouble trying to keep it on race water going much faster, but that's true of the MeanMachine as well. A 60 mph oval racer needs to be right at the legal length limit, IMO anyway.

I have a Smith's Cat and it is gorgeous, but it is not a good handling cat. It has a fatal flaw in its sponson design that really messes with its handling. But it's awfully narrow to corner well anyway. I still love mine.

Fluid my 4s whiplash runs low 60mph in oval trim with a 1515 1y , hydra 240 and a very nice m645. Handles like she is on rails too!!
