Which drive dog should I use?

    Hey guys,

What do you guys think is the more suitable drive dog to use for these stingers/props? Smaller one is the Octura 3/16 drive dog from OSE. Prop is 42mm 1.4
I figure the bigger one would probably be more true since it covers more space. But I hope it doesn't affect prop performance...

Also, are those bullets a bit too big for these props? I was about to use some locking prop nuts but they are way too hard to bolt on.

I prefer the bigger ones , the smaller one sounds good in theory but the grub (set screw) is very tiny and the .050" hex driver will usually make a mess with the screw or sooner you will strip the set screw against the dog drive itself.
The larger one uses 1/16 hex driver and it can take much more torque from your hand. You will never have slippage as described in another recent thread. Use med. strength thread locker compound and you are good to go.
The hub of a 42mm prop is usually the same dia. of the bigger dog drive.

I prefer the tapered dogs. They are the same size as most 3/16" stingers/struts with a nice large 1.5mm grub screw. But they taper down to the size of the 3/16" prop hubs. Especially good for 3 blade props because the forks don't foul up on the ear of one of the blades like the large drive dogs do.
This link is from an Australian seller, but they are available all over place from different online shops or ebay.
See the danger. THEN DO IT ANYWAY!!!

          Paul, thanks for mentioning it.

I thought of that as well, this is made by TFL:TFL drive dog.jpg . I thought the OP wanted to stay within the Octura brand, these are well made, and the grub screw is metric and I think is 2mm. Certainly robust enough.

The tapered dog is from Kintecracing. 5th item on this page: http://kintecracing.com/Drive_Dogs.html

This one won't obstruct any water flow to the prop though right?

What do you guys think of the size of that bullet there -- is it too big for this prop?

A little off-topic here ... but I just noticed that *all* 4 of my on-board caps on one of my Swordfish 200 8s had broken legs for some stupid reason... I'm hoping I can solder these ones, but the other ones might be a little tricky.

Any of you guys seen this happen before? I hope it wasn't due to my fuse tape being overly tight last time I had wrapped this thing up...

Would the ESC still work ok even if some of these caps aren't soldered back... especially if I have that extra SF cap bank ?

I would restore those caps before next run, it's not hard. Just my $.02

Perhaps if they're a common type of cap I should maybe find a replacement with longer legs so that they're easier to solder back.

Do you know if they carry these at places like Radio shack, etc?

I use these drive dogs on all my builds. They have served me well so far.

Radio Shack doesn't carry last when checked, this is Rubycon, both OSE and Kintec carries them.
You might be able to order on line. The legs are longer, you need to trim them anyway. Its easy to solder, just take a moment to mark the polarity, don't forget. :-)

This is what I have found in radio shack... would these work? Especially the bigger 1000uf ones? They sure seem rather similar...
