Sonic... got it... it looks like it is accomplishing the same thing... but yours is cleaner... the "jumper" was just a series adapter... I believe they accomplish the same thing... I had no idea you could do it the way you did... definitely looks easier... do you think there is a downside to using as planned?

I ran an almost identical setup in a 51 incher, mine was with a Castle 2028 which is basically the same size motor, and used four 5s 40c 5000's. 5s batts are a lot easier to deal with when charging. I ran two in series for 10s x two sets for 10s2p 10,000 mah and it was plenty of juice.

      Very nice boat.........

Madmikepags... thanks for this... sounds like I do need to relook at the battery situation... even if I went with the 10000 idea... this would be 4 5000mah 5S Lipos... (10S and 10000mah per side) -- guessing $700 or so just for these four batteries ;-) --- any ideas... does this sound right??

Boy I am glad I did not pencil out a full budget for this thing up front ;-) --

Make-A-Wake... thanks for this!!! I agree on the 5S being easier... and I can manager them better... sounds like what you did is what I need to do... I found these.. http://www.walmart.com/ip/39150396?w...478752&veh=sem

i will let some more experienced boaters weigh in on better/worse or right/wrong. I went this way to minimize connections. One less failure point. I say go with what works.

That boat is sick. I agree with Mike 10s2p with 10,000 mah, 12,000 would be cool too if you could do it.

As far as esc setup goes, if you use "standard," start up you'll be ok.

That is an arrowshark outdrive. They are made for gasoline applications. I have one of their outboard legs which uses the same gears only one set. I am running a Turnigy aquastar t20 motor on 12s on my lower. I have run it maybe an hour and am seeing fairly significant wear on the gears. Luckily the gears are fairly cheap and available. If you are looking for a scale look the outdrive may be OK if you don't mind working on it from time to time but if you are going to use the boat a lot running hard you may be better off with a conventional flex shaft outdrive. Don't get me wrong , I like my drive but any Scale drive like this is more prone to breakage than the simple flex cable. This tunnel is 56 inches long . DSCF0739.jpg

                  Dave102... thanks for posting!!

They claimed that the gears / gear system on the outdrive have been improved somehow... but we will wait to see... I am hoping with 10S and scale running, I will get some length... they gentlemen who has run the M8's has said he is pleased so far with durability, but NO DOUBT that a conventional flex drive is going to hold up better... but my goal from the beginning was super scale... mid 40's... casual running... and something different... it was wild not finding anyone who had really used them yet, but willing to be the guinea pig ;-) -- but time will tell... PS.. your boat looks sick fast...

My tunnel was built for a zenoah motor 15 years ago by Performance International. Now ML boatworks has the molds. The boat never had enough power with zenoahs. This brushless setup pushes it well. I like the arowshark drive a lot it is a work of art but the gears are wearing. scale looking drives this size are never without problems.

I am not trying to talk you out of it. In fact with my experience I am pretty sure what you are doing will work out. I just think if you run it a lot you will have to replace the gears after a while. I am pushing mine pretty hard. The m8 uses a flex cable for the steering swivel instead of a u-joint. They lubricate the lower gears with oil and the upper gears with grease I believe. My outboard drive obviously just has the lower gears and they are running in oil. Not sure if the upper gears only having the grease will give you any problems running at the rpm's an electric motor will be turning but I am wondering.

I would not buy those batts, venoms don't have a very good track record and they are high priced.

I used these exact batts............served me very well. Lots of folks run Zippy's and Turnigys.........they may all not advertise that fact though. Good batts.

However if you are looking for more scale running 8s2p would be better

Dave102... Thanks a bunch for all of the feedback!!! And I appreciate the candor. I know there is definitely an easier way but the goal of building a runnable display quality model is just too appealing. Seems like you did the same thing!

In regards to the drive, you touch on a very interesting point. The gentlemen who runs twins of these says ignore the grease guideline in the upper case and run them with oil throughout. He has a very special blend (combining amsoil and Mercury gear oil) but cannot recall exactly the ratio. Will look it up.

I am excited. I have four boxes of parts waiting in my hobby room to unpack. Will post some photos tomorrow!!

Make-a-wake. Thanks for sending these and the feedback on the venom. I used a couple of venom packs for my short course truck but not a real test I believe. I used the zippys many years ago in a scale EDF F-16 and they never gave issues. For 45 bucks it seems hard to beat. I have some time on batteries so will look around a bit.

Someone else knowledgeable recommended revolectrix as great quality at a fair price. So will look at those as well. I used to run almost exclusively thunder power stuff but their cost just seems to have not kept in line with everyone else in terms of value. Sad.

Thanks for all the quick replies!!!

In regards to the gear wear as Dave has mentioned, 8s2p would be a compromise you may consider. Propped accordingly...............maybe even a bit conservatively, you should get into the mid 40's which seems to be your goal............right? On 8s2p you can use a larger prop than 10s2p as well.

This may help you, here's a vid of my Big Dumas Cig boat with a 5692 1000kv on only 6s2p running an x452............all conservative, and it looks fairly scale. Probably nudging 40 mph here. It has an outdrive as well.

I run 10S2P in my 51" shovel nose with a neu 2230. Using a 6717/3 prop it does better than 70 mph.
