I like the strakes for keeping smaller boats from being swamped (??) .Something I need to do as the hydromites and DF minis go under the hull more often than not during retrieval attempts

That was part of my design philosophy. Jack's pool noodle rescue boat kept running over the stricken victim, forcing it to Davey Jones' Locker. The strakes get under the victim, keeping it afloat, and they act as rudders when pushing asymetrical loads when the victim is crooked between the sponsons. They work great for getting reeds and other floating junk out of the pond. You can see a reed in one of the photos.

The John Deere RJ-5000 uses the steerable outdrive from a Graupner B-24 coupled to a geared, 7.2V Speed 400 turning a really large, but very flat pitch, submerged, 3-bladed prop. A 15-amp reversible "Viper" Marine ESC handles the power system with ease.

It's nowhere near as fast as a jet-powered boogie board, but it can harvest a day's worth of crops on one charge.
