    Hi
Have a look at this 150A ESC
Reedy Blackbox 410R 1S-2S Competition ESC. Not cheap but sounds suitable.

I look forward to seeing you at a future UK SAWs, there are not many of us running SAWs and any new addition to our event would be very welcome.

Castle Creations do a 1s capable version of the Mamba Max Pro ESC and they used to do a 9000KV 2 pole 540 size motor which crops up on ebay from time to time, and still do a 7700kv 4 pole 540 which is probably a torque monster on 1s.

I haven't seen any British boats built for SAWs in recent years, all the boats at UK SAWs I see are either race boats or sports boats. As there are no race classes for 1s, and I don't know of anyone running sport boats on 1s, I think it unlikely that you would have any competition here in the foreseeable future. I can see both sides of that, but if I were thinking of making a SAW boat in the UK it would be for one of the more popular 3s, 6s or Mini classes.

Darrin, that is a beautiful little rigger, mind if I ask how big it is and what it weighs RTR?

I replaced the cooling fins with water cooling plates... I can't seem to find a picture of that. I'll dig.

As for the Reedy Blackbox 410R 1S-2S Competition ESC...

You can get some fun speeds with RC Car Controllers, but to do what I want to do... I need something that is going to handle 200+Amps continuous.

The P-HYDRO (4-cell) SAW Record is 118.92 MPH... The N2-HYDRO (2-cell) SAW record is 103.3 MPH... I know for certain that the N2-HYDRO record was set pulling around 350-Amps (I have the data on my laptop from the ESC that was used)... I suspect that to hit my goal and really push the system to the edge of reason, I'll need to be able to sustain 300+amps for the length of the runs. As I said, current record is 71.xxx, I've personally hit 74.xxx and made multiple passes that day over 70mph. Just didn't get two back to back (I DID, however, get 70's BOTH ways in the same run... which is GREAT. Usually, the 1st run is really good, then things are HOT for the second run and performance falls off). My personal goal and expectation is that 90+mph is achievable. That won't just happen, and it's not going to happen using a car controller. I do think, however, that it can happen. Hopefully I can be the one to do it.

As I get time to build them, I'm also going to put together a 1-Cell Mono, and 1-Cell Cat. That would cover the available classes for 1S. The Hydro and Cat can run similar power systems. The Mono will need something a little different.

For now, I'm re-outfitting my current Hydro (shown above) and will play with that. That is a one-off, built-up boat. I have a plug that I made to create a mold of that hull (see picture). If I feel the design can be pushed further, I'm going to build the mold and lay one up out of "unobtanium" materials and see where I can take it...

          Thank You.

          The RTR weight, using a Dinogy 5000mAh 1S Cell, is 1lb 10oz...

I'm going to be adding another layer of carbon inside the tub, as I found it to be a tad too flexible, and it's affected by the heat/moisture. The sides are single layer carbon fiber 5.5oz cloth over 1/8" balsa (bagged, of course), so really lite, but it needs more structure. Working on that these next two weeks.

Also, the stumble blocks in the front needed to be wider and extend out past the inside edges of the sponsons. Those flat sides allow water to climb up the inside edge of the sponson and won't let the boat drive up onto a plane. Easy fix.

I've been running the Mamba Max Pro 1-Cell ESCs for a couple of years. They are OK to a point. Like any other RC Car controller, you are totally maxing them out with what I could consider a "mild" 1S system (< 10,000KV).

My last M2-Hydro passes, where I achieved the 74.xxx mph 1-way pass, was done with a 12,500KV power system. Two passes, then get it on ICE.

              Paul,

Where do the UK SAW's take place? Can you send a google maps link to the lake.

I think I remember that picture Darin. Hull bottom cut out to install ESC upside down with cooling plate taking the place of the hull.... Might be wrong though...

No... that's not me... Mine was just standard OSE water cooling plates.

                      By the way...

It would be a HELL of a lot easier and less expensive to go 100+mph on 2S, or 4S, with readily available equipment and proven systems, and there would be way more competition in that area. And, it would likely impress the masses, or those few that actually pay attention to such things a LOT more.

But... I'm not doing the N1, or the M2 stuff to impress anyone. I do it because it's a challenge and it makes ME happy.

                      Otherwise, what's the point?

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/...e0205f033b6e9c We have run SAWs at several lakes over the years, but this is where the last couple have been and where the next one will be.

Is it about 25" Darrin? I get trying to go fast on little power, but would you still do it if Wilmer was not doing it too?

                          Yes... on both accounts.

Wilmer isn't the only competition out there. Andreas Lehner laid down some runs last November as well.

Doing something that only a handful of people in the world can or have done is kind of fun...

"Fastest MPH per Volt" is kind of cool as well...

It's just FUN! Biggest deterrent is getting decent ESCs... I've pushed the RC Car stuff about as far as I think it'll go. Need something with a MUCH higher capacity to go where I want this to go.

Don't need to worry about that. All setting a record does is make me wonder what I can do to break that record.

The significance of this hobby in the big picture is so ridiculously small, anyone letting this stuff go to their heads really needs to rethink their surroundings...
