One of them was the rc adventures one that medic did and there where a couple more that the same thing seemed to happen. Like I said I'm new to boats so what kind of things do you upgrade and what types of response do you get from those things?

Well I've been watching a lot of videos and was wanting to lean towards the impulse but on a lot of the videos it seems to bounce a lot. Is this something you can fix with a little tuning or what?

That is difficult to judge: let's say if the hull has zero defect, the wind, condition of the water and the degree of knowledge of the boater ( ability to dial in the boat correctly) all have something to do with the bouncing.
If the hull has defects in it's ride pad area, you will see bouncing no matter what, usually they are slight bumps on the bottom called ''rockers", if the boat ''submarines" , also known as " the boat stuffs", it is the opposite, the bottom has concave areas that makes the boat "go under the water''.
Neither the IM 31 nor Revolt 30 have been known to have these defects, on the other hand, compressed hull in the shipping box during high heat of the summer could deform hulls, I have a catamaran that deformed probably due to hi temp in transit.

Thanks for all the help y'all. I'll be purchasing one in the next month or so just in time for spring. I look forward to getting into a new type of rc! Especially with as much as I'm on the lake in the summer time. As far as batteries my lipos I run in my truck are 50c on my 2s and 60c on my 3s. Are those gonna be ok?

Some land vehicle Lipos have a banana plug for the wires that go into the hard cases, like these:http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXBYUJ&P=SM ARE NOT GOOD for boat use. The higher amp draw means this type of connection is the weak link. You want to have the wires soldered from the cells and come out of the casing, while we are at that, most of us prefer soft cases. In any case, steer away from those type that I linked you to see.

ok thanks. all my current batteries are soldered to the cells and not banana plugs so should be good to go there. I have some soft and some hard cases. any particular reason of soft cases over hard?

Trim tabs are set wrong, bending them down a little bit will take that out.

If the vids are from Horizon Hobby \ Proboat they run them that way on purpose to make it exciting.

The IM31 is the better choice IMO - current production, better components, availability of affordable upgrades like these...

Anyone recommend some immediate upgrades for the impulse 31, in addition to the tabs and fins already listed. Different prop maybe, if so which one?

If its your first boat...don't change a thing on it initially...it will be fine as is until you get a feel for driving it..remember, walk first, then run.

Contact BHChieftain - he's on this forum - ask him for one of his setup guide's for the IM31 (might have to specify Version 1 or 2 boat) lots of great info, especially if your just getting started in the boat hobby.

His prop recommendation is Octura x642 - with stock motor on 4S

Since your new, I would recommend that you have a professional sharpen & balance your props until your skill sets have advanced so that you do your own.
Pretty much everybody on this forum (myself included) recommend Chris @ Dasboata - he's also on this forum.

Shoot him a PM & let him know what your after, then go from there. He can supply the props, lot easier than buying one & shipping it to him. Might want to have the stock stainless prop done while your at it. Nice to have a spare for testing new \ different setup's... changing motors \ ESC's etc.

Cool sounds great. How will I know if the one i am looking at is version 1 or 2? I don't see anything specifying that in the description.

Version 2... http://www.proboatmodels.com/Product...rodId=PRB4250B - has dark blue motor & ESC that have "Dynamite" stenciled in white ink on them.

Those statements are assuming your boat is in stock configuration.

On the box by the bar code is the part number... Version-1 = PRB4250 -- Version-2 = PRB4250B -- the "B" means it's version-2.

One thing i cant understand is why the manufacturer website doesn't list the motor size on the Impulse? 1800kv means nothing without the size for someone to judge the potential power/performance. I guess one has to look up the motor seperately..........which is not listed on their site. Someone with limited knowledge or is new to RC will find it very difficult to find this info. I can only assume its a 3656. Its just odd that the manufacturers are starting to list motors with a "cool" name and kv but leave size out.........this one is a "dynamite"!! ............clearly advertised to catch the eye of new boaters........ Every motor they list says "motor size", then the kv or poles only, its really lame. Who's gonna buy a car with a "7,000rpm turbo" but not know the cubic inches?.........probably no-one. Everything is about advertising and sales now.
