I have an OL Skool 37" shovel nose hydro that originally had a brushed motor. After running it with that "DOG" I was kind of embarrassed at how slow (VETS seen it too) it was, maybe 10mph. So I put in a UL-1 motor/esc and used 4S with a 3 bladed grimracer prop. Now its just uncontrollable, spins out etc... I noticed after reading a thread about submerged props that this boat has exactly that. I am planning on a better rudder, is my problem also from my choice of props ? Also the turn fin is really small, but I thought from pics I saw that the thunderboats all had small turnfins or dont that apply with our rc boats... DJ

Dj, I'm no pro at these kinds of boats but I'll give an opinion on what I see....
I noticed the prop is angled down and would be below the surface of the water. Since you didn't say exactly what prop it is, I'll assume it's one you had laying around and probably isn't the right type for this hull. Does it swing the ass end around on you? I could see that happening....32" carbon rivercat single 4s 102mph, 27” mini Rivercat 92mph, kbb34 91mph, jessej micro cat(too fast) was

shovel-nose hydros run just like all hydros do. with the tail up and suface drive. do some research and find a similar boat set up correctly.Originally posted by kfxguy View PostDj, I'm no pro at these kinds of boats but I'll give an opinion on what I see....

Some vintage hydro racing rules mandate a straight run for the drive line, all of these have a setup very similar to what you have. they run 1500kv 36/56 motors, one of the popular props is the K-45 from Graupner.
You will have to play with CG, turnfin and the prop to get it running right, will be a fair amount of testing.
For the longest time ALL boats ran solid shafts and sub surface drive, dating myself on this one but I was running boats when flex shafts first came out! I also had the first surface drive mono in our club an Aeromarine Scorpion with a K&B 7.5 rear intake. Anybody remember the Octura strudder and hum-dinger motor mounts! Was state of the art back then.If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

Travis exactly it swings around..... yup just tried some of the 3 blade hydro props I had already....
Mark, you are exactly correct and it is a solid shaft straight run sub surface drive....Tks brother now I have a starting point for my prop...this boat is very scale and I didnt want to change over too modern strut etc...I put in a 3656 2030kv motor, do you think maybe this is too high a kv for this hull ? on 4S, I might try 3S. I am not looking to race, its just too pretty to ding up. I want it for fun and the shows I do for the vet nursing homes, thought it might bring back some good old day memories for those great heroes. Should I go with a bigger rudder, the current rudder is a 4" inline.... tks..... DJTunnels-PS295. Cats-H&M M1 Supercat Daytona rivercat. Monos-DF Cyberstorm HiTech 29.
