best way to darken epoxy?

I searched around but didn't find my answer. I know there was a thread on this a while back but I had no luck finding it. I use jb weld for the mounts and stuff in my hulls. On my next build I'd like to use something black in color. Any way to darken jb weld? I think i read something about putting graphite powder in but that makes me wonder if it'll be weaker? Ideas?

I know that one way is to use Carbon powder... I think that's what a lot of people do when they lay up molds... Something about the black surface that helps to highlight air pockets when laying up a part.

This works very well. I keep a jar of leftover carbon fiber dust from sanding and shaping parts in the past.

When I asked my local store they recommended epoxy pigment (http://compositescanada.com/product-...epoxy-pigments) versus graphite saying that graphite doesn't act the same as silca and weakens the joint (by how much ?????). The tint is epoxy so you would still mix with the same weight of epoxy vs hardener. You'd be surprised at how little you end up using.

I use black epoxy dye from ACP composite. It only takes a drop or two to blacken out an ounce of resin and the colour is great. Travis, you must have a ton of carbon dust around or can make some quick if your in a pinch!

Look for a glass bedding kit for rifles, sometimes they have colored powder in them. You can get stuff called epoxy black from brownells

I always use Fine CF grindings, not only does it turn your epoxy coal black it strengthens it too..
