The zonda/fantasm is an excellent choice. 80mph plus is no problem once your ready for it. Are the getting a zonda bare hull or starting with something already assembled that you can upgrade? Either way you've chosen a very nice place to start. You may not ever need more boat! Now the fun starts, Goodluck.

I have decided to build a Zonda.

Reason:
1) I want something small enough I can take out with me on my boat. It will give me something to play with while we are at anchor.

2) It will be within the budget to mess around with different setups while I learn how to tune a boat.

3) it would suck to destroy this boat during the learning process but I wont be heart broken. I can see owning a larger cat by next summer. Maybe a winter build.

Will I heard about Fun Junction race at Debbies from some of the boaters that run there. Yes that is my Zonda in the pics and I will have it with me Sunday for you to take a look. Me and a few boaters will be there at about 11am. Also looking to buy a nice hull for a twin build maybe I can pick one up there for a good price. See you there.

I'm out of town until Saturday night but will definitely go to fun junction on Sunday. What time and where do I find info about it at? I have heard that they run boats there but have never seen anyone with a boat at that lake. I take my kids to the playground at fun junction a few times a month. I only live 5 minutes from there.
Is that your Zonda in the pics you posted earlier? I would like to take a look at it if you bring it with you on Sunday.

Kodiak, Looks like we share the same LHS Debbie's! I will be in your area for the SAW speed trial at Fun Junction this weekend. I'm hoping to pick up some speed tips and see some real hot set ups. I'm going on Sunday. Saturday I have to do this thing called WORK!! Did you hear about this event?

Will, if you want a boat that cruises in the 70's or 80's beautifully then your looking at the right stuff and getting advice from the best, always room to go faster with that stuff. Handling around the corners not so good. The boats are very scale looking and drop dead gorgeous. It's the only stuff I would be looking at if I had your budget! I find the cats that go quick (not like this stuff) and handle really well are out of proportion as compromises are made to get them to turn well. There is some nice stuff out there but it doesn't compare with the thrills of going fast. I like your thinking, start with the best and you could pick yourself up a boat to run smaller ponds on. It's an addiction once you start but very rewarding

No. It's running with Lehner motors and swordfish ESCs in that video.

If so, wow!!! But hard to believed a 51" cat can run that fast reliably on a 36mm can. As I'm interested in what the kit you have for sale will do reliably.

I say wow every time, regardless of what I'm running! 100mph+ boats are such a cool demonstration of power in person...
If you're most interested in reliability, you don't want a boat THAT fast. No matter what parts you use more speed = more energy and a higher degree of damage in crashes/etc. I would recommend something within your original parameters for a boat that's still fast but not quite so much "on the edge". You can run 80s and have fun with a HPR or a mystic design, if you're using other hulls that speed might be a bit lower. [/QUOTE]

The packages I posted may or may not be good for you, depending on what you want in a boat, and they might not be available when you're ready. I will be happy to send you in the right direction or put something else together if needed though.

What are you looking for and what's most important to you in terms of:

-Handling
-Looks

its all about knowledge and experience, I've run my HPR06 (45", same as MHZ Mystic) just with LMT 1940 motors for a couple of years, best was 156km/h top heat on a SAW competition on 6S. But it was always quite on the edge for the motors, no real room for errors. I've seen those boats doing well over 100mph with LMT 1950 motors.

I looked at your other tax MHZ 114 with the Lehner motors. Are the Lehner motors worth the extra coin? Looks like $1700-$1800 for the pair of motors and ESC's. What's the performance of that boat and setup on 4 or 8S Lipo? Any vid,s of that boat on 4 or 8s Lipo? I'm not sold on it yet but could be.

There were some other differences besides ESC and motors, like upgraded drives.
To answer your question, yes. Lehner motors are in a league of their own, nothing compares.

Note that the exact motor/prop setup in that video will not be shared...it's a demonstration of the hull and lehner motors though.
