    I wouldn't go that far...

If I wanna "go fast" in a straight line, FE is where I would be going... When I wana go fast and oval heat race, I will be with the .21 and .45 sized nitro guys. All have a cost to go fast.

I race with the MMEU guys because they are in "my backyard" and they race often.

There are plenty of ways people getting into racing. But what does every newbe what to know when they have there boat running good? How do I go faster? Most common answer: Buy new this, buy new that...

      thanks....

Straight line is a different ballgame all together.

It's good to hear that MMEU is doing well. Sounds like MMEU needs the Nationals in 2009

      thanks,
      Steve

Sorry, I got off topic. My point was; racing is not cheap! If you wanna race, its going to cost you money. The decision is up to you how fast you wanna go, how much you want to spend and what the power source is going to be.

For what it's worth my next big boat investment is gas. I've been looking at them now for 6 months or more. So far the front runner is a Rico offshore. It won't be untill next summer or fall before I can afford to build it.

One of the neat things about the Gas classes is that you can build a "Stock" Gas mono, and run it in two different classes, and be pretty competitive in both...

Plus, again, the runtime and reduced need for support equipment... makes a quick trip to the lake much more doable and hassle free...

Tom... Does Ricco have a website??? I know that Ken Haines and Mike Martin ran Ricco boats in the P and Q classes at the Nats and they were pretty good looking boats...

                    Don't be fooled.

No Tom, they want you to go Amish, it's like the old USSR. Your poor and live in a sod house, they change nothing.

                        Enjoy yourselves gentlemen
I have a Grand Prix race to get ready for. The FE guys will be running four classes (none of them over 4 cells) and Casey and I have entered in one gas class each so we can pit for one another.

Five heats of racing in five classes over two days, I wish some of you would join us.

We race gas because we can, I'm building a Thunderboat because they are big, and cool and I can race it with my club mates.

                        Have fun fellas,
                        Doug

Very nice, I ran mine at Yorkville and Huntsville and got it up to 68mph, back before a rigger set the record. They no longer run at Yorkville, the tree huggers shut it down. That's in IL ya know, a socialist state.

I got interested in boats with the Supervee27 but have now got a gas boat with Zenoah 26cc.
Bigger is better and to have a 4feet boat going 50mph on electrics it will cost $$$ and then there's that charge time if you don't have multiple packs.

I have been in RC planes/helicopters for ~9years and my conclusion is electric for the small and medium sized and gasoline for the big stuff, no matter if it's heli, plane or boat.
For me, glow engines (or "nitro" as some call it) are out of the question... Too messy, expencive fuel and much tlc to get them to run reliably.
