hyperion 6060 I + NIMH = BAD

Man i tried charging my NIMH packs on this thing and it makes them get really hot 127 to 135 degrees! and that's only at 3 amp charge!
Boy for a $100.00 dc charger i think it should work better than that!!
Anyone use there hyperion in NIMH mode ? are your batts getting hotter than normal... my ICE works much better and so does my MRC 977 but they have a MV adjustable setting and the hyperion don't and i don't know why when it costed $100.00!!

Hmmm I have charged a few Nimh packs with my Hyperion DUO charger and didn't notice the packs getting real hot. What are your settings on the charger? What is your delta peak voltage set at?

i have only used my chargers to charge one pack of nimh. and they were not even mine. they were warm when i got them off which is good.
but the charger is a very smart machine. you IR must have been very hi to only charge at 3 amps.
i would take a look at you battery packs being at fault rather then the charger

Hi the 6060i dc charger don't have a MV sensitivity adjustment.... that's why i think it heats up the batteries a lot because they most likely st the MV setting a little higher so it don't false peak on all batteries new or old.... My NIMH packs are perfect on my ice they charge great and come off charger warm also on my MRC pro977....because i can set the MV values on bothe these chargers so they don't over cook em... kinda stinks that you spend $100.00 on the hyperion dc charger and it don't have this feature..

Hmmm I noticed no one asked, what capacity Nimh packs are you running?

I use my 606 to charge my RX pack the pack gets warm but not hot.

Instead of any voltage adjustment settings, if you have a Delta Peak Sensitivity adjustment on it, you should try to set it to the lowest value for most accuracy but, a lower number means the charger will try to be more precise in peak charging, but in may also cause a peak charge too end early. If its set too high, that may contribute to overheating the battery packs. The other option is to use the temperature probe that "I think?" it has???

I aaalmost got a Hyperion but was not ready for Lipos yet and read on different forms that they are great for Lipos but lacks features for NiMH's that the ICE or Tritons have?

Do some testing while your watching the charger. A 3.3AH pack should take 3.6AH of charge if fully drained. Once the voltage stops going up, the pack is fully charged. It's possible that a 4AH rate will work better than a 3.0AH rate. Too bad that this model does not have a Peak Sense mode, the Duo does.

Not sure if the charger has it but are you sure you didn't use the nicad settings to charge it instead of the NIMH settings?
Also I think you mean EOS 0606i for the model number. Which one is it the 12V powered one or the AC powered they offer about 4 different models

It does have seperate settings for NIMH and NICAD and other battery types also

Yes, my guess is though, he got that part right....but it's a very good question. NICAD has less sensitive peak detection

Hi guy's this is the DC version it has no peak sensitivity settings.... and in NIMH mode it also goes into a trickle charge wich is no good for NIMH packs.... I contacted the shop i got it from and asked him if he can contact hyperion about updating the chargers software and adding the MV peak setting adjustments and maybe a on off for trickle charge of the NIMH mode.... I know all about chargers been charging batteries for over 25 years.... they just set the MV setting probably a little on the hight side so it workes with New or very Old NIMH batteries... on old ones you mostly use a higher MV setting and on new a lower setting will do.... so i think they put the setting a little on the hight side so you won't get faulse peaks....
