I like it, it looks like a re-imagining of the classic Jaguar XK120 from the'40s and '50s




I also like transomless boats, my last 3 cats were getting there.
This was the first one and it did have a transom although a thin one, a 36" for 6s then 8s. The main transom was 10mm with a section increased to 20mm to bolt my strut and rudder brackets to, faired in with a canopy and engine cover complete with intakes for a pair of V12s.


This one was next 25" for 2s with 3.5mm transom. I realised I didnt need brackets, I could cut a carbon bar into the transom and mount hardwarre directly off of that, puting the servo in a sponson. I forgot to design in room for all my gear so it ended up with an ugly great raised area on top, was going to make a long thin F1 style canopy for it but built it too wide and stopped using it while it was still ugly.


This one was 449mm for the <500mm Mini class, and I learned my lessons well, carbon rods instead of brackets, sub 1mm transom, perfect width to length for the square course, and that class canopy was almost molded round the gear, motor and coupling in the cockpit, 3s A123 and room to move them for CoG int the main body, ESC in the air scoop, and servo in the tail pipe.




The pictures above are in the wood to show of the transoms as photos tend to mask them once painted, but all got finished and raced, shown here are all 3 finished along with a mean machine for that year's mini, 2s, 4s, and 8s cat race fleet, yes the 2s boat was too wide but in my defence we were running a square course at the time not an oval.

The XK-120 Jag is a design that all present car designers should consider as the holy grail, as most present car designs are frankly crap and look dated after 3 years. There are exceptions such as the Porsche 911 from birth in 1963 as the 901 to the present 911.

I had a 1958 120 Jag that I bought in 1966 or 67 for $175. and my Dad made me take it back. He regretted it for the rest of his life.

I have an old version of solidworks. Kind of dated but, still works. Solid modelling isn't too bad but, I didn't learn much on surfaces etc...

Holy crap. SW standard is 4k.

Maybe I should just take the time to learn Autocad 3D.

This is a 1/8th scale Venom GPV aluminum rim from Germany and my doodling in SW to re-create it. Fun stuff just haven't been able to find a job doing it since my last job at SpandrelTech 5 years ago.

Building this for P limited. Hope to have it put together for the Winter Warmups. A little different. Most everyone is building scale looking cats these days. Thought I would push another direction.
