Oh I didn't forget Doug. I was just trying to be more delicate. haha I remember when Kelly and I first started working on the offshore rules we were actually asked "who the hell do you think you are?"
Really the rift goes back even further than the tech battle over batteries. It dates back to the introduction of brushless motors. That too was going to be the end of racing. Lines were drawn then. Hence forth there were two camps. Pro-technology and anti-technology.
Then there was the great SS1 debates. Ugh. Stupid.
Back then some of the mods (only some) were anti-tech and would moderate according to their agenda pretty much the way Doug described. By the time that stopped it was too late. Many were already elsewhere trying to figure out where to go with the tech that obiously wasn't going to wait around for us to feel comfy with it.
Left to the anti-tech guys we would be running NiMh, 05 cans, and 700 motors to this day. Those that pushed the tech and the rules that would allow them took a beating on the forums from the dooms day people. I'm certain that's why some of us are so defensive about the rules. Good, bad, or indifferent they were a chore to get there.
Drobie was very dedicated. You could say that he cared about this nonsense more than he should have.Noisy person

I would just like to add that the red forum helped me get started in FE boating and I still miss Captain Ron....a man that spoke his mind and knew a hell of a lot about FE boating......also, on this forum many of the members who share their in depth knowledge migrated from the RRR forum.

When it started I was never so excited and bout anything in FE. I had a blast all most always. Politic suck any time they are pulled to the surface. I just love boats and that is the long of it.Originally posted by Jr Branham View PostLose all the drama and it was a cool place to hang out years ago. It wasn't all negative.

Yep, the 2 am death threats to Drobie really turned the namba hall of fame to the hall of shame. Funny how oldtimers do not know what caller I.D. is.
There was a time when it was pretty harmonious place and people got along relatively well. Things can change real fast.I try and avoid paste eaters.

Things got weird over there. Most of it was fun useful dialog, but it did get weird.

Thank you for the enlightenment, I honestly didn't think anyone would care to answer such an uninitiated question, much appreciated!Originally posted by J Solinger View PostYou are correct.

I frequently wear mine from '04 or so (whatever year it was I CD'd). I miss Doug too. His "Air Drobie - Call 1-800-OR-DROWN" airplane has a place of honor in my shop.Originally posted by raptor347 View PostA toast to Drobie! I'm wearing an '06 Sardine Classic shirt as I prep for the SAWs.
BTW, I'm trying to find a color match for the covering to repair a little damage on the fuselage - if one of your Mazo guys has a piece I could sure use some. Or at least if you know what he re-covered it with (transparent orange/red).
I still consider Don and the crew friends, but the site has had problems a long time. It's not a new thing. Check the date: http://www.rumrunnerracing.com/fefor...ad.php?t=21894
