Soldering station reccomendation?

After 40 years of Weller I tried a Hakko station because we use them at work (oceanographic electronics). Very nice stuff. Having said that, all of the major brands are fine.

My Dad worked for Hughes Aircrafts Co.'s Missile Guidance Group, I "inherited" a Weller and it is bullet proof, still use it. Made in The USA no less!!

This is a great value, I bought a Hakko at a trade show for less than half the money you buy on the market, however, if I had known this deal on HK, it would have be a no brainer. I like this because you can rely on the digital readout to adjust the temp to your needs. In someways I prefer this over the old Weller.

Since I got the HK goodie my soldering time has been cut way down, and my solder joints are much better. Did some 8mm bullets yesterday and didn't break a sweat. Does a quick job on parallel connectors which used to be a PIA - I can now knock them out easily and quickly.

Yes, I know! I loved it when I had to solder 8 ga. wire , cranked it up all the way. I used to get really frustrated when I had to solder anything above 12 ga. Lesson for me was that one has to have the proper tools for the intended job.

+1 I solder regularly at work using multi-thousand dollar rework stations, I have this HK system (hakko knockoff) at home and I'm very happy with it for hobby use. Performs very well in point to point applications where temperature is really not as critical as with surface mount work.

Lol I have the hobbyking station too. Solders 8 gauge no problem. Get a hakko chisel tip from a main hobbies and you"ll have a great setup.

I've got two of these, one @ my shop and one @ home in my toy shop. Over a year on each and no problem with either one and they work great the heat gun is real handy for heat shrink tube!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Maxtra-2In1-...item2a28b74f01
