Hydro rudder placement

I found on my miss elam that the prop was loading in the corners. The solution was to make a longer bracket and move the ruddeer further back, this stopped the wash from the rudder loading the prop and makes for faster turns. The other main reason for a left side rudder is the linkage is pulling in the turns rather than pushing and potentially flexing. Other than that it would be preference. Only testing will tell if the setup will give any other advantage overall. I think there may be some theory between one side or the other but most setups seem to be right side rudder.

Well I could still make the linkage pull by leaving the tiller arm on the right if I mount the rudder on the right side. I'm mainly concerned whether there are any ill effects to right side mounting or major turning/handling advantages to left side mounting

My LSH has the rudder on the right. It works.

However, the best turning boat I have seen has it on the left. Something about the distance between the turn fin and rudder. Also I think someone made a comment about equalizing drag on each side of the boat.

Hmm, I suppose that's true. Looks like that boat does ok with it on the right
