I purchased some of the 25c elite packs when they first came out over $1000 worth . They where *!***!***!***!**! All have puffed and been disposed of. I now run Polyquest 25c and 30c and with over 10 packs have had NO problems. I have heard only good things about the 30c elite packs though, but after my experiance with the early 25c and the great price I can get my PQ packs will not buy any.

This OSE site has 4500 mah 6 and 7 seven cell packs for a decent price. Might be the way to go if you plan to stick with Nimhs.

Charger problem solved...
HX8080
hexTronik Balancer/Charger Dual Charge Capable
hexTronik Balancer/Charger Dual Charge Capable (JST-XH Plug)
Input Voltage : 9~15V DC
Output : (8.4v x 2) OR (12.6v x 1) OR (16.8v x 1)
Auto balancing
Auto Overcharge Protection
Size: 132x82x35mm
Weight: 309gr
Comes with a balancer and overcharge protection inbuilt.
It can charge from 2S to 4S packs and can also do TWO 2S packs at ONCE!! Which is a real bonus!
The charge port connection fits all Polymax, hexTronik, Dualsky, Align, Kokam etc.. battery ports.
You can adjust the charge rate from .5A up to 2.0A for a fast charge.
We use this charger to balance and charge packs sent back to us by customers under warranty returns.
Our staff have around 50 perfectly working packs for our fly-days. These packs were sent back to us from customers who could not charge or get the pack to balance with their own charger. If it wasnt for the chargers auto balancing and cell restoration slow-charge, we would have sent the faulty packs to the recyclers.
Although this charger doesnt have a fancy LCD screen, it is a solid workhorse and will charge and balance packs perfectly. We highly recomend it.

If you are just looking to get up and running for this season put an wanted add for some good used nimh packs in the for sale section. With folks switching over to lipo there should be some great deals on used but in good condition packs. Your sv shouldn't need anything top notch to make it go well. Heck, I'm still using some gp3300 packs that I bought 4 years ago.
Save up your cash for a while and when you are ready you can make the big switch to the latest lipo technology.

I use those Elite 4800 batteries from cheapbatterypacks and they work wonderful. 65 dollars each is not much more than nimh. Your boat will sure plane with these unless you have totally missed the setup somewhere else. Totally stock mine runs 36 mph and everything is cool. The problem for Daveo is what is he going to charge them with?

You might want to check these out. Only a couple of bucks more than the NIMHS you are considering.
Elite 4800mah 2s
Cell Count: 2S - 7.4 volts.
Capacity: 4800mah
Pack Plug: None (You will need to add your own connector)
Tap Style: TP or PQ on request
New lipos brought to us by Elite. These cells are designed to fit in the physical space of a 6 cell pack of SC NIMH cells. This means that a 2s pack fits perfectly in almost any RC car or any RC verhicle that uses a 6-8 cell NIMH pack. Unlike some other low cost RC lipos cells on the market these are true 25c cells verified by us. These will compare very closely to PQ5000 25C packs.

I am not really looking to race, or even eek out as much performance as I can. I am just looking for good run time and the ability of the battery to get my baot on plane. All last year I struggled to get the boat on plane. I tried every thing except new batteries. This year i want to run it but I am on a very tight budget.

I have to agree with this...
Thus far (two seasons going), the Elites, at least the most recent ones, are an excellent value. We'll see how they stand up at the end of this season...

I just ordered 4 of these TP 4500 Extremes from RCToys. They have free shipping and here is a save 10% code.
"DFTHANKYOU10POFF"
I've only had 1 problem ever with TP lipos and it was a V1 Extreme and they sent me 2- V2 packs to replace the 1. GREAT customer service

Mony is the big issue right now. I know how much better Lipo is, but i just really can't spend more than around $100.00 right now. I want the Lipos, but i will go through the summer without running at all if I wait to save for them. I have too many kids!!!!

You can get LiPos with around 4200 mAh capacity for a few places for around 15-20 bucks more. Even though they are less capacity, they will perform better and last at least as long. NiMh can only be pushed so far with respect to current drawing capacity. I've popped many a NiMh in my SV and in the longer run, it would have been cheaper to go LiPo.
Just something to think about.
