In another thread which I didn't want to hijack some discussion was started on how a "P" mono compares to a .21 mono. I know Dist 12 has some valuable actual heat experience combining the species. I am sure they will have wisdom here.
If you look at 2 lap records only, which setups closer reflect heat boats the difference between .21 & 45 nitro and P and Q Fe's is not signifiant. On the FE side some P records are faster yet they are close. For the most part 4000 watts is the same power 4S or 6S if you can supply the greater P amps efficiently. Just different KV and props.
I know from my experience with OB tunnels my P setup would be my choice over the boats we have won the Worlds with and US-1's in the .45 nitro class. Not really faster top end but acceleration wins hands down. Running P spec against .21 sport/stock boats the same holds true. The P spec acceleration advantage puts it into a mod .21 OB tunnel category in my mind.
In my experience to keep it fair in the P vs. .45 OB class maybe a limitation on the FE to 5000-6000ma max would keep prop selection down on the FE. In a tunnel the Q allows a bigger more seaworthy setup which will beat a .45. I am not sure how my P mono would fair well in a .21 nitro mono class but I think it might be an advantage again.
It seems to be the case as in D-12 there is a kind of gentlemens agreement that the FE prop down. The hard part of that for me is 2 guys build FE boats and one is set up well and the other not so much. To accomodate the difference does the better FE boat have to prop down and the lesser get more leeway to keep up with traffic. For me I would spend my resourses time and money on another class. It is hard to handicap mismatches. Even though I disagee with some spec rules it does allow for someone who is willing to spend the time on props and setup their due results.
So what are your idea's? Do we even promote the crossover? Some areas have full rosters and others will benefit making classes work when numbers are down. It also does make for less heats. On the big end I would like to see open classes be just that. Not open gas, nitro or FE. Nothing wrong will run what you brung all inclusive.

) For 2012 we ran P-Ltd Sport Hydro & P-Mono here at all Legg Lake events and only once failed to make the five-boat minimum for P-Mono. Then the SCSTA allowed three-boat exibition classes of P-Ltd. Cat and that was pure fun. We're running all three classes in 2013 with the crossover movement in full (well almost) full swing. Some rather stalwart Gas/Nitro folks are now getting FE in their fleet's mix. To that end I decided to do a FE Classroom/Fun Run Day with FE demo priveledges extended to NAMBA cardholders (see flier) with hopes of disseminating the wherewithall to get into FE. It's an idea that I believe can encourage those considering crossing over but are holding back because they lack the knowledge of what it entails. We'll see.
