Need HELP!! choosing a motor for a Mr. Krabs

I bought one of these http://www.finedesignrc.com/images/x3crabs.jpg and set it up with the motor mounts toward the front limiting my space to a 36mm/40mm x 74mm motor. I've look many motors and can't decide which one. I'm also looking for a good esc to match this motor. It has to be small and handle some decent amps. I can stuff 4s,5s,6s up front so there are alot of motor options. I'm looking to go fast but not insane. Was think of spinning a v947 or something like that. This boat we have many exploits. This is what sets:

For 4s1p - Tenshock CZII 2240/6 2680 KV Props Tenshock 42 or 45 mm, 1,4 step. Wish LiPo 4s1p 25C 6200 mAh - 5-6 min run time.
For 6s1p - Tenshock CZII 2240/9 1790 KV Props Tenshock 42 or 45 mm, 1,4 step

Thanks for the info. The tenshock motors are good?? They are 6 poles. Never used a 6 pole motor. It should have more torque. Which esc are you using?? Not a lot of space for a big esc. Thanks, MaddMatt

Tenshok motors are not just good. They are very good.
Especially Series CZ II.
Motors with 6 poles in use are no different from the 4-pole.
The timing on these tori can - about 12 - 18 degrees.
Controller for your model should be fine Castle Ice 160A.
Or this - Swordfish 120+ but this is a minimum.
Or this - Swordfish 200+

Hi Gromov, re Tenshock motors. Is the Tenshock EZ 2240 edf motors any good for boats, how do they compare on performance & quality to the VZ & CZ11 motors. Thanks Martin.

About motors Tenshok.
CZ II - is the best series.
Serie VZ (Viper) has magnets at the maximum operating temperature (150 degrees Celsius, against 190 degrees a series CZ II) and and much lower quality bearings.
Many motors *rattle* out of the box.
Series EZ has magnets 150 grad. as a VZ series, more quality Japanese bearings and a design oriented for installation in aircraft impeller system.

I repeat - CZ II series - the best.

The reason i ask about the EZ in boats is because the EZ are easy available to me at good price, where as the Viper & CZ11 i must import from another country which i dont want to do.

Riggers are sensitive to weight, because most of the time they should be barely touching he water.
Carefully compare the weight of all the parts you put on it. Neu are some of the best, but pricey.
Riggers running well are able to make better use of high RPM motors. I know that both Neu and TP power wrap the rotors in carbon fiber to withstand the 60K RPM red-line. Manny riggers run in the 40K RPM range. Also, high efficiency motors mean low heat rejection, and generally are more power dense.
The LMT motor quite nice, and can handle higher RPMs than the viper motor.

Thanks for all the input. Regarding the CZ II motors(very nice motor) but I can't find them in the US also the TP3640L I can only find in 2500kv. I'm thinking around 2000-2200kv. 2500 is too high for my needs. I can get the viper series in all kinds of kv's. I can actually fit a 74mm long can in the rigger and prefer that size. I like power. I wish Neu made a 36x74 can. I bet they will come out with it soon. Who else sells TP in the US? I'm also having a hard time trying to find a higher amp esc that will fit. This is like stuffing 10 gals. of sh*t in a 5 gal. bucket. I'll do it with your help. Thanks, MM.

Castle / Neu 1515 are a popular choice for the JAE FE, a similar size boat. They can be had cheaply on eBay too

Good Morning. I have to decide. Tenshok viper 6 pole motor 38x70 2160kv($120) from RCR in FL., Tenshok CZ II 6 pole 2180kv ($230)from Europe(Really nice motor), Neu/castle 1515 2200kv($140)from Ebay or Neu 1515 1y 2200($210)from OSE now out of stock. I hate deciding. I have a problem between my wants and the pocket book. Such a conflict. Even more when I'm looking at 5 hulls to build. Where in Mich. are you? I live in Mercer, Wi. which is 15 miles south of the UP line. We are getting snow today headed your way maybe. Thanks, Matt.

I'd go with the neu/castle. Best motors out there for the money. I've ran over a dozen if these motors on boats. Neve a failure. If you decide it isn't for you, the resale value is also excellent.
