Discussion of a comparison of these two Large FE motors

I now own the following 2 motors and want opinions on the application of each in a CF RC Boatworks 45" mono.

I will be using a 300amp swordfish when OSE gets some more hopefully and can go to about any voltage with lipos that is necessary.

What voltage will you be running? That is a large hull and will work better on 10S, those motors are too high a Kv for 10S or above. Too, a 300 amp controller? Why so much? The big advantage of running high voltage is the ability to use a lower amp draw to achieve good performance. Most racers running hulls that size run 10S with motors in the 700-800 Kv range and 160-200 amp ESCs. Speeds are in the 60s to 70s depending on the prop with decent run time.

The second one as Keith said can be set at 600 or 1050. Tnks Keith Regarding the esc just wanted to get the best out there for the money. I am looking to run a x457 or if u have a better prop recommendation hey Im listening

10s or 12s will not be an issue as I want to do it right. The hull is a work of art as it is clear with some of the nicest cf work showing though u will find any where, MUCH better than the HOR hull workmanship. Can post some pics of it here tomorrow if u want to see what I mean.

Okay, the first motor is not comparable to the second. The 600 Kv wiring is on the low side for a "typical" 10S setup but it may allow you to run the larger gas props which are more suitable to this large hull. An x457 will make the boat move but you will have much better luck with a larger gas prop in the x465 to x470 range. The caveat is that the Sky motor is an unknown in the reliability and efficiency department - it may or may not pull the larger gas props at acceptable temperatures, I have no experience with them.

What are your expectations for the boat? How will you use it? What cells are you planning to use? If insurance is important to you then 12S is not covered by NAMBA or IMPBA - use at your own risk.

Well the Leopard 56x110 looks but the other 2 r paid for!! so I am relegated to using one of them. As for expectations, the boat is for sport only, have a good time with, fast but not a saw candidate, reliable is a huge thing with me. If I build a gas boat I want it first and foremost to be dependable, solid in construction, and not some fad build, rather something to be proud of. At 66yrs old I am not a good enough driver to handle boats 60mph and above in a 6 boat heat race and feel like I can be successful. Super stock is now my only racing class.
This boat will be built RIGHT as I can efford it. It will be solid, dependable, reserved in appearance but nice. Hope that helps. Pics of the hull will be on here in about 15 minutes.

10s and a larger prop sound good to me. If that will get me 60mph or up that would be great. What esc do I need if 10s is used? This boat is VERY light, for its size. I really appreciate ur help in this Fluid.

Here r some pics of the y-6 rcboatworks hull. It is the nicest hull I have ever in 37 yrs of boating owned. It was way more boat than I could ever pay for normally but found it in a forced sale on Jims and with a guilty conscience "stole it" or almost. The gentleman needed the money so guess that is some measure of good.

Been working on a 50" gas cat that is almost finished before I had major ligament surgery in my rt elbow done last wk. Pics of it in next post

I am in the middle of building my custom 42" mono. I just picked up the 56110 leopard. Cannot wait to get the hull done to put it together. I am interested in seeing how your motor run and prop selection. Keep us updated as you build thanks.
