Supercat 49

Hi I want to build a new cat over the winter Currently have a DF 36 The one I found is a super cat 49 by mountain hobbies. 49 x16beam. Has anybody had any experience with these hulls and what motor esc combo I would need to push it over 60 MPH

I've seen the youtube video but haven't seen one in person. I'm thinking about the same hull and considering a 5692 for motor. Anyone out there have any experience with ANY Mountain Hobby hull ???

Until very recently the world record for a gas cat was under that speed, it took one of the most experienced engine builders in the business to get to 90 mph.....with a proven Aeromarine hull. No one else has been very close. The Mountain cat may be a decent hull - or not - but I tend to hesitate whenever I read BS claims for a no-name hull/builder.

Actually, the manufacturer (Mountain Hobby) claim is:

"with Redline Performance Motors 29.5cc Zenoah Big Bore 1mm Stroker Full Mod Race Engine putting out over 7.5 HP pushing your cat to speed's around 80 MPH !!! "

If that hull is a race worthy boat, and at 80mph it would be, u'd see a buttload of them out there racing in gas, AND U DON'T!! The boat is an old Eddie Barnes design that was hard to setup in order to race. It just never made it. NICE scale appearance, and probably a lot of fun though.

they are done with a chop gun and not hand laid, that is where there price comes in,they are good for a entry level gas boat, but with the cost of the batteries and electrics needed for a big boat to run, its not a good platform.

I think the reason you dont see many fast gas boats is because when you get really high compression zenoahs that have been modded, a 1/8th of a turn on a carby screw can make a big performance difference.

as I told Atech, don't bother on this one.
one of our club members has one and it is a right piece,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

it rolls over on its' back in turns for starters..................... (that is just the beginning)
other gas folks have tried to get it to work better but it is just ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,not worth it.

I don't know where u get the idea a gas cat is not fast. Here is a link 4 u. I can dig up a buttload more if this isn't enough to quell that kind of statement

gas cats in our district (Dist. 12 IMPBA) are fast a shnit. They handle great and are super reliable to boot.

most run the Aeromarine or Insane hulls which are designed for all out racing.
