Ul-1 to mono

Thanks guys for all the valuable input. If it helps I have been running gas and nitro monos for many years, I am way into boats but I run alone. No boating friends around here. So everything I know I learned from experience or reading on the net so every little but helps. Its only the electric part thats new to me. I run all kinds of hulls but the wind seems to always blow when I want to go fast with one of my hydros so I want a boat I can run when its rough. I have no problem modifying a hull if thats what I need to do. I like to build my own boats and hardware when I can find the time but I don't build monos. I do like the idea of a self righting hull. To be honest I am gonna thrash this thing. I want to hit big waves and watch it fly so sturdy is good. I have a chase boat I paddle out with to fetch boats and floating chunks that used to be my boats. lol. But its no fun to paddle out in the wind so self righting would be great. I have not had a chance to do any research on those hulls yet but I will add toysport to the list of hulls to check out. Thanks again guys.

I like monos, but only ones with flood chambers installed-- between me and my son we have a toysport syncron (29"), a toysport triton (31"), and a tenshock mono1 (25"). The toysports are awesome boats and are built like tanks, but unfortunatly, they are not cheap...
Anyway, if you want a mono, think about looking for one with a flood chamber. Makes for a lot of fun bashing around the lake without worrying about capsizing. Note that you'll usually need to ditch one turn fin due to the flood chamber so these boats will turn better right than left, but I think it is worth the tradeoff (all mine will turn left, but not too sharp at high speed. Right turns can be done WOT).

I started my comment with the obvious, so there was nothing to hide. I Don't like monos. Plain and simple. I have had several of them, to name a few off the top of my head...
H2O UFO
SV27
Pro Boat Mini V
MHZ fountain
Pro Boat Shockwave 26
Bandit boats Pistolero 22
Cen Aquajet
Aeromarine mini xXx
Pro Boat Formula Fastech
Aeromarine Titan29
How many do I own now? NONE. How many do I run currently? NONE. How many will I run in the future? NONE. I was just throwing out my 2ยข which is acceptable for all other OSE members, but I guess I'm not permitted to have an opinion, nor am I permitted to share it. My recommendation carries no more weight than any of yours. I didn't put down the T29, nor did I say it ran like crap. I simply stated MY personal opinion of the hull based on my experience with it. I got the boat already setup, but nothing I could do to her would make her any better. I have been pointed in the direction of the DF29 as a great running mono, and that if setup properly, it doesn't need all the "extra hardware" attached to the transom to make it run right (trim tabs). I simply passed on the info of a good mono I was given, since a mono will never be in my fleet.

I dont think he was discrediting your boat Danny's talked highly about your boats in the past its true he doesn't like monos I am not much on them after my experience with the one I had but if your jumping waves I cant see using much else. A build thread or even just some set up tips would probably help allot of people.

Thanks man, I think I got it running pretty darn good. I felt Like my suggested hull was being discredited by a negative experience for another. If it wasn't the case, then my apology for retaliating.
I'm just trying to get him into a hull that can do some wave jumping fun...
Maybe I will do a thread.... I never did a build thread on that boat...

Dana I just watched your vid and your boat does good and it looks sharp. Dannys comment about looks being for shelf queens I think has a bit to do with the fact that the paint job that I took 2 weeks getting just so on his boat he got the record with was trashed by the end of the SAW's but was necessary to get the record so looks is secondary when your racing. I know if your titan was mine and it got scratched or dinged up in a race I would be a bit bummed about it.

lol I didnt think there was any attitude in my post so let me clarify why I said what I said and agreed on the DF
1. I have heard more than one person mention that they didnt care for the Titan does that mean that its not a good boat no just that there are some people who dont care for it. Dana seems willing to help him with the Titan which is totally cool and the kind of thing this forum needs.
2. I have met Chili or Carlcisneros over a race weekend and seen his boats run and talked with the man for several hours and I respect his opinion because of it.
3. I have heard several people praise the DF
4. About modifying the hull you may know that that's part of setting up a boat and I may know it but does 4X4 know it and what is he capable of doing?
5. If you read my post again you will see I said if he wants the Titan to go for it because if he buys something he really doesn't care for how long will he run it? I might not like the Titan (I agree it looks cool) but if he does great its his boat.
6. I said I like seaducers but didn't recommend it why because I don't have any personal experience setting one up and cant help him with it.
7. I mentioned that Danny can set up a boat and set it up well because he seemed to be attacked for simply stating he agreed with the others that recommended the DF and stated why he did so. Danny had his Titan a long time ago maybe if he tried one again he would have a different opinion but its his opinion and hes entitled to it.
8. What are people around you running is there a forum member close by with mono exp that can help this guy set up his boat?
Siberian I really do hope your happy with your boat and I apologize if you thought I was slamming on your choice I am not doing that.
Dana I really meant what I said about a tips thread for setting up a Titan it could help allot of people and would be a great thing. I don't think Danny was slamming your personal boat at all, hes talked before about his titan to me it was a long time ago so maybe if Danny did one now he would have a different opinion who knows. I know I started with an Arrowana mono from R2 hobbies and wouldn't pick one up out of the trash if it was brand new but there are guys on RCGroups that love them.
Finally If we all liked the same things this hobby would be boring. Its no secret me and Danny are friends we don't like the same boats that often but we do help each other out and I have seen him bend over backwards to help people so maybe I got a bit defensive on his behalf without realizing it I didn't mean for that to happen. I hope this helps clear the air a bit now lets go build some boats!

WOW talk about attitude, my point was that racers and record holders have chosen that hull, others have chosen the df 29, as I posted I PERSONALLY am choosing the Titan WITH a UL-1 motor and why I chose it.
What's your point about something being done to the hull? Thats all part or properly setting up a boat!
He asked for a suggestion/opinion not some wishy washy wimper of a possible hint.

Come on... Really? It doesn't take a seasoned pro to set up a Titan 29 to run well. They are excellent handling boats. The guy wants a good mono. If you hate monos, andd dont run them then let others who like them and do run them give some advice.
IMO, for some chop, the titan will be quite a bit better than the Delta Force. It'll be far less prone to stuff in the rough stuff, and choppy turns. They run fairly light atop the water.

Wow hey guys he's not attacking your kid he's just saying he doesn't care for the hull. So records have been set with it what was done to the hull beforehand? I know someone in this thread just set a record with a boat they finished putting together at the lake on the day of the race, so I wouldn't discout Diegoboys ability to set up a boat. 4x4 if you want to go with a titan and its what you will enjoy running go for it same for the df29. I like seaducers but I don't know if they have one that fits your needs. Dana a how to for monos would be a big help for people so why not post one up if you have the time.

Thanks for the help guys. I will look into those hulls and decide which one I want. 35 mph would be ok. Will one hold up better then the other when pounding waves?

No shots Dana. I just don't like monos and the Titan29 was the final straw. My T29 was setup when I got her, and nothing I did could make it run better. I love Aeromarine hulls though. I still think the Titan29 is one of the better looking monos.Originally posted by dana View PostI guess if we're taking shots here,Danny, I'll say, it's too bad you set up your Titan wrong...
Either boat you'll be happy with 4x4
What is your setup? Can you post a link to a video?Last edited by Diegoboy; 05-07-2012, 12:30 PM.

I'm planning the same project as you for a race boat, pretty sure it's going to be a Titan for me. Been told by a number of serious racers AND record holders with that boat that it is a great hull for rougher water conditions.
