2.4ghz questions

Hey does anybody know if I waould have problems useing a 2.4 surface reciever in one of my boats and if so what would happen?

2.4 ghz seems to be the new standard and has been for some time. I think that is what everyone today uses with exception to a few who still run fm/am.

I'm using a Flysky GT3B which is a 2.4ghz surface transmitter/receiver (not a dedicated Marine receiver) and I have no issues.

Doesn't matter what surface you run on. The FlySky FS-GT3B is inexpensive, reliable & bullet proof. I have two. Plus you can buy a bucket full of RXes for <$10 each. JIM

I'm wondering what I am doing wrong with my GT3B. Everyone says they run it without any problems, but when i run it in my Arowana or Mystic i get signal loss after about 50m. Any differences between the FlySky and Hobbyking version maybe? Upgrading to Spektrum DX3R PRO with Marine receivers now so wont be a problem, but would be nice to know if there are any tricks so i could use them for some secondary projects later on.

Only thing I can think of is make sure the antenna is sticking out the antenna tube as far as possible. Other than that I am not sure what would cause poor signal...maybe it is where you run your boats? It seems like some people have problems, I am not sure why, but I am running this radio/receiver in two different boats and I have range as far as I can drive. Not a problem yet with either.

I am also thinking it has something to do with where you are or how the antenae is placed. You may have the same issues with the spectrum. I have yet to see a review or test which shows the GT3B as not having excellent/superior range.

In an effort to try correcting the problem i actually taped the rx up side down in the roof of the Mystic right by the antenna hole, so the antenna sticks out as far as possible. Didn't help a bit sadly. But I am going to give my nr 2 radio a go to see if the first one is the problem. Sucks seeing the other guys with Spektrum DX3C and DX3R PRO running all over the lake, and i have to just make small close passes :P

It's starting to sound like you may unfortunately have a fault transmitter or reciever. If you know anyone else with a GT3B set up you could try binding your reviever to their Tx, and vice versa to see where the problem is. Replacement recievers are incredibly cheap.

As i said i got two transmitters and a bunch of recievers. Same on multiple recievers, so its time to try my wifes transmitter and see if the problem persists.

Why do you say that? As far as i can see Futaba is not Marine certified. And i already run Spektrum DX3R on my cars, upgrading to the PRO version just allows me to run the Marine recievers for my boats as well.

Why do you say that? As far as i can see Futaba is not Marine certified. And i already run Spektrum DX3R on my cars, upgrading to the PRO version just allows me to run the Marine recievers for my boats as well.

"Certified" or not, the Futaba 2.4 radios are used by many of the top R/C boat racers worldwide. OTOH, earlier Spektrum radios had major problems running on water, so the maker had to make changes to the transmitters and receivers to correct the problem. Skektrum "certified" the newer radios as "marine" versions to differentiate them from the earlier problematic radios.

Several of our club members use Spektrum DX3 radios without problems. I use a Futaba 4PKS without problems. One uses the SkyFly radio. The only guy with chronic radio problems is using a Airtronics 27mHz radio.

Kind of late to bring this up again since it was two months since last time this thread was in use, but i changed to DX3R PRO using MR200 receivers and have no problems at all now. When dealing with several cars that already had Spektrum receivers changing a few boats was far less costly then changing everything to a new brand. I do use lots of Futaba servos and a Robbe Futaba radio for scale boats though.
