Genesis RC Boat...your thoughts?

Saw the Daytona bare hull for $150..thats quite a deal and it does look very nice.

Only problem is, I don't know the first thing about priming and painting, so maybe that might be a reason not for me to get it.

Sorry folks, looks like I am sticking with the Genesis...I don't have time to learn how to properly finish a hull.

I can't paint either. If you know someone who paints cars, or a local body shop that's willing to work your boat in, it can be fairly cheap. Usually you can pick a color that they already have laying around so you don't have to buy new materials.

If you want a really nice boat in the future, go with the bare hull. If you aren't confident in your building skills, you can have it built, for a price.

It's the same as the HOR 32" cat. Out of the two, I like the 32" River a bit more than the Daytona/Genesis. It's a bit tighter, but they handle quite well.

What do you think of this setup?

This is the hardware I plan on getting when I get my Genesis. Let me know what you think:

Receiver: Spektrum MR200
Servo: Spektrum S6020
ESC: Castle Hydra 240
Rudder: Bonzi Rudder Blade

I plan on running the stock motor until I get used to the handling of the boat, unless someone thinks it would be good to upgrade anyway.

From what ive read about the stock motor, its junk. Notice I said "read". Is your 240 the HV or LV version. If its the HV, id run 6s with a Leopard 4082 1550 or 1600kv (which ever is available) with a Seaking 180 speedo. Use a RX pack or UBEC. Upgrade the flex to a .187 and start with an X445. Youll be good to go...until the hull breaks open. All the China man hulls need re inforcement. (see Keith Bradley).

If the stock motor isn't what it's cracked up to be, what motor is recommended? Keeping in mind that my Hydra ESC is the LV version (25 volts)

I would like the motor to be as close to the stock motor as possible (Specs off the HK website for the stock motor: 36-74 Size 2075kv Watercooled Brushless Inrunner), don't want to get too overwhelmed.

Why not try it with the stock motor and see if you are happy with it before spending out on a more expensive motor and replace it if/when you feel that you want more speed or if/when it fails?

My grandson's has a boat that we built a little 'under gunned' motor wise and he uses it as a fast sport boat. It was his first 'fast' boat and it is still plenty fast enough to be entertaining (It is still his favourite boat) and also taught him a lot about setting up and driving with a reduced risk of crashes due to driver error while he got used to running a model at speed.

the original motor in the genesis is fine.
just not for THAT boat. it runs great in my 26" drifter S. but it is MY oppinion that it is to small in the larger 37" genesis.

i ran mine for awhile with the factory stuff and motor and ran alittle hot but that was it,, after time i changed it all out just cuz i wanted it faster but all the original stuff was still good..I advise you get it all factory, run it, enjoy it then later change the electronics to go faster or whatever..
