Surely you'll empathize with the chore of traveling 400 miles to race (with seven boats entered) that a little extra insurance helps. Offshore's rough on motors even with a decently balanced setup. I'm hoping to prove that a Cat can be ultra-competitive if it stays in the race for 4.5 minutes.

I suppose if everyone insists on running UL-1 motors for Offshore, then I can empathize... I'm just giving you a hard time.

The more we do this P-Ltd thing, the more I wish that the UL-1 motor hadn't been included... It's becoming a 1-Motor class, with all the rest of them evenly matched for second place... Hind-sight...

What I can't wrap my head around is the current practice of running the AQ 2030 in 32" Cyberstorms for P-Ltd Mono & Offshore. I just tested my Titan29 (for P-Ltd mono)yesterday with an 1800KV AQ and a hefty prop and it rocked. Hmmmm... & Oh, wait 'till you see the P-Ltd Mono I'll unvail for the first time in the USA at WWVIII

And wait until you see Gary's Titan 29 with a UL-1 motor turning Offshore laps! I ran some laps with it a few months ago and I think Gary enjoyed watching me drive his boat more than driving it himself. There's something kinky in there somewhere! It will walk all over my Cyberstorm, and I've got 8 mm connectors on it!

Darin-you really can't say that, can you? It comes across like sour grapes. Besides, there is probably a better argument that supports exactly what we are seeing today.

I only see the UL-1 motor being the hands-down favorite in riggers, and maybe, just maybe Sport Hydro. I would not hesitate to run the 1800's in Sport Hydro, OPC, Mono, Offshore, CB or JS. Plenty of classes for other P-Ltd motors to race and compete at the top.

My P-Monos have been using 5.5's between motor & speedy. Everything runs reasonably cool except the motor-to-speedy 5.5 connectors. They've gotten hot enough to de-solder and with a bunch of P-Mono & one 4.5 min. Offshore race coming up I decided to go to 8mm Castles. Mark told me they're hard to connect together & disconnect. HOLY GAZOOMBA's !! Mating them took every ounce of strength my poor little fingers could muster (and then some ). I exhausted my entire vocabulary of obscenities and magic chants () getting them to mate and now I'm dreading trying to, if it ever comes up, getting them to release. I can just picture muscling them apart with all the grip I have, then POP, they realease and I'm holding a motor wire in one hand that I just ripped off the motor .

Any Ideas ? Magic incantations ?

Considering your experience I would suggest just Soldering it Hard Wired. Thats What I have decided on my P-mono and you wouldn't believe how much cooler the whole system ran. I've decided to try a TP2180Kv-4082 this year because, heck why not heat it up some more right John?

Anyway, I'm doing hard wiring for P-mono, Q-mono and maybe Limited classes too. I just buy some 3/16" copper tubing, slit it open with dremel and then solder the tinned wires inside after a light crimp. If you crimp while the joints still hot it's quite a bond!

If you do allot of motor swapping then I guess connectors are your only way. Maybe I should design a nice gold plated hard wire connector. Different ones to go from one guage to another...

Once I put a motor in, most imes it stays unless it was a really bad idea. I don't like the 8mm bullets from HK because if you pre-sand them, they foul really quickly and thats bad!

Just trhought... I can use 4mm female connectors as sleeves for direct, drill through them.... as long as all wires fit inside. EC5' female would do well too... just thinkin'...

Tony, I went with 6mm bullets with tiny slots on the male bullet. I think the springy type males don't have enough surface area for a good high amp contact. Will test the Apparitiopn today & let you know if there are any lumps of silversolder splattered on the deck after my run. JIM

Tony, back from Lake Murray w/o any de-soldering with 6mm bullet connectors. I was gonna reduce the timing from 11.25 to 7.5, but I forgot. at least I gave the setup a good 15 mins of test running. First time I've changed out my batteries in the Apparition!

Then, the Lake police threw me out, AGAIN. This time - last time. F%@#in tree huggers. Gotta find a FE friendly lake somewhere in San Diego. JIM

Thanks Cal. I've run nitro & gas boats at the Mission Bay Model Boat Basin where the Argonauts used to have a power boat branch. And I talked with Al a couple of years ago. Although only the sailboat side of the Argonauts is active, anyone can use the pond. Problem is it's SALTWATER! I'm gonna try running my FE boats at Sweetwater Resvoir & Lower Otay Lake. I've already ran at Santee Lakes & they are cool with FE on lake #2 only at this time. FTH's!!! JIM
