Drilling Carbon Fiber Booms

Any special method for drilling sponson mounting holes in solid 5/16" CF rods?

all i did was set the booms on a table clamp and drill away, did cushion the booms with a piece of rag to prevent sctraches
Most importantly you have to align drilled holes in a straight fashion

And use a sharp bit.
