More stupid questions-please bear with me the last time I played with model anythings I was in my teens and I'm now in my 60's. Old school.
I have a Graupner Speed 700 Turbo that will be going into a 1/12 Finlay shovelnose hydro. I have two props-one is a 40MM 2.20 pitch, the other is a 38MM 2.09 pitch
plans call for an X642 42MM 2.64 pitch. The motor will be powered by two Turnigy 2S1P 7.4 volt 3300mah 30-40c wired in series.
Would the Pro Boat brushed ESC that Steve has (even though he is out of stock) work O.K. in this application? It is attractively priced helping to keep the cost down but it might just go up in flames first time out. The Graupner box says idle current drain 2.5A, current drain at max efficiency 12.5A, Blocking current drain 65A,and it seems most ESC's are not rated for 14.4 volts-will the voltage be the death of most ESC's?
Somewhere I was reading about a brushless ESC that would let you run a brushed motor without harming the ESC-the little gremlins in the ESC figure out which type of motor you have, but again I wonder about the voltage and amp ratings.
I would appreciate any recommendations that you would send my way.
If all this works out O.K. and the boat doesn't implode or I run it into dry land then I will probably swap the motor over to a brushless unit in the future at which time I will need more recommendations.
