      i'm sorry i blew up. i believe i installed it right and for cooling it works great but for performance it is not good in my opinion is not a wise purchase. if it wasn't the right part for my application (a cat) then it probally won't be right for his cat, especially if he wants to use multiple ones.

      i was pointing out the flaws of the product but i should have done so in a more tactful manner

            You don't need much water to cool. Now if the flow is great, it won't pickup much heat but if you put a reducer in the line just before it reaches the can cooling should do the job.
            This point is debatable. I've heard it many times and the reasoning and don't agree with it. It is true that an individual water molecule will absorb less heat if it passes through the system quicker. However many more water molecules will flow through the system in a given time with increased flow. Although each individual one will take away less heat there are many more involved - overall removing more heat from the system.

            With full size boat motors higher water flow through the cooling system results in cooler engine temperatures, reduced flow results in overheating - why would this be any different? A car's thermostat blocks flow of coolant when the engine is cold to allow the engine to get up to operating temperature more quickly. Once there it opens up to allow more flow and cooling to keep the temperature in check.

            Placing a restriction or dam ahead of the components you're trying to cool may have a positive cooling affect only if the flow isn't great enough to completely fill the volume of the cooling tubes with water without the restriction.

              I enjoy these debates because I pick up an education in the process. If I may... As to the total efectivness of water cooling. IMO in the colder months I agree it is the best method of cooling. In summer I have my reservations. I read something JayT wrote a while back that gave me pause. "The surface tempreatures of most ponds and lakes are very warm. 85 to 90 degrees in most cases". I don't really see how water that warm passed over a 100+ degree powersystem does much to exchange heat. I would rather air cool in the warmest months. Now I understand the reality of this in smaller FE boats is just not viable. But looking around the technology has progressed to the point where large boats are the norm now. I think its time we look into air cooling options and even onboard intercooling systems using synthetic coolants. We are spending 400 on esc's 350 on packs...why not 250 on a cooling system. I have seen them for cars.

                Another thing is that increasing water flow can also result in more drag if it involves locating a pickup lower. This increased drag will raise amps and motor temps offsetting the benefits of the cooling. A rudder water pickup should create the least extra drag of any water pickup system. Air cooling is also good because it doesn't introduce extra drag.

                  I did a self contained cooling system for a nitro boat once; Used a small battery operated airetor from a bait bucket as the pump an about a foot of aluminium tubing coiled an a small alum. container as a reservoir that held maybe 3oz an in the cooling system a total of 5oz. Used this system in a large mono with a .45 ops motor. It did add slightly to the overall weight but in terms of effective cooling it was damn good. I would use sleeve on the tubing to the motor the adjust the volume of fluid to the head allowing a moderate control of head temperature. over just water cooling at least. Maybe as you say SJFE with the advancements of motor/esc an other technologies in FE maybe someone should revisit the cooling aspect.

                  An by the way the whole cooling system I had "jimmy rigged" lasted for almost a whole year before the cheapy pump broke an cost about $30 to make.

                        Doesn't do any good to tell anybody about it, they just critcize what i know are facts.
                        After reviewing the posts I didn’t notice any criticism. All I see are a couple alternative points of view. This is what makes a forum useful. When well-moderated debates like this are very productive. Many members may not participate. They do have the benefit of taking what they want from the discussion as a whole. Don't ever think no one listens. It's why we are here. I would hate to see you or anyone with your technical knowledge bow out Fred. We all lose in that situation.

                          Thats kind of what I had in mind. When wicked sighn's in I'll grab a link form him. There is a company that makes a great RC system. 11oz pump, reservoir & an awesome little radiator. It's all very light and runs on low voltage. I considered it last fall but it was pricey. I am going to take another look now. The radiators are small enough to fit inside some of the larger scoops from MHZ and so on. Of course ducting over fan & heatsinks is still another less expensive option.

                            Id like to see that system as well, an maybe I will rethink the system I did if I could find a low voltage high usage capable pump, the one I had used one D cell battery an was the size of a PDA, battery weighed more than the whole setup w/o fluid an worked well till the thing crapped out from about 10hrs of total time on the pump. Any one has a suggestions on a pump I might fab up something an try it in the triton.

                              RCBOYZ on ebay sell a nice little pump for around 20 bucks. I was going to pick one up for bilge as a boat saver.

                                Correct me if I am wrong but I believe a liquid is much better at heat transfer than air. Even though the water temp on the surface may be quite warm it is still better than an air cooling system under most circumstances.
