hatch latches

I would like to install some type of screw latch for my Pursuit so that I can install a subhatch and help hold it down with the screws. What could I use that would be waterproof when installed?

I make my own out of stainless bolts and use a washer with a rubber side to it to seal the hatch watertight.

I think thats what I'm going to do. I just need to figure the material to seal the sub hatch and how to join two pieces of the sealing material together and still seal. Like when two pieces meet at a 90° angle.

I thought about it today, what if I took some marine silicone and ran a bead of it along the edge of the subhatch all the way around nice and evenly then let it setup. And used that as a way to create a seal between the subhatch and the hull..... I know silicone can be compressed a bit, then when I screw down the hatch it will push the silicone down against the rim sealing it.

There was a thread that another forum member posted he used close cell foam weather stripping the link is an example you can find it different widths and thickness.

here's how I did it, the foam I used is a waterproof rubbery type door seal. good luck

I saw that Millzee actually I've been using your thread for reference but I couldn't find the right stuff for awhile. I finally got some today I just didn't think it would be waterproof but alot of people seem to have good luck with it. Maybe I'll try making another subhatch and doing both to see which works best. But my biggest problem is I have to figure out how to seal the notch that the tab on the hatch goes into. Here's a pic

Maybe you should glass it up from the inside and start again, you could then use the protuding pin of some sort (pop rivit, rod or whatever) this way you can make sure the hull is sealed

Unfortunatly, that's the way it came stock so I have to come up with a new way to fix it. re-glassing it would probably work but I don't know how to do it. I thought about using the can foam to seal it then dig out a little chamber for the hatch tab to fit in but I have no idea if that would seal or not.

I was thinking bike rim liner may work.

An update on the subhatch though, I went ahead and stuck the window foam on the subhatch and it sealed down. I need to stiffen up the hatch a bit because it flexes when I put it on. I also installed the latches for the hatch and they work great too. I got a pool noodle I'm going to cut and glue to the hatch for some flotation and something more to push on the subhatch.

Otherwise still stuck on that hole....

I think the liner would be flexible enuff to go around lip and over the holes,
But still let the latches go in.
