Need advice on step mono setup

Hi,
Anyone please help advise on the CG, the motor mounting position and prop for the 25" step mono.
I'm ordering one from HOR racing as per below link. I'm planning to run it with either the Feigao 540L 1890KV or the Leopard 4060 1500KV (depending on which one can fit) with 180A Turnigy Marine and 5s Lipo.

I have a stepped mono and it has a pretty bad chine walk. W/o having done further testing on mine, I would recommend using a very adjustable strut and think about setting COG farther back than on nonstepped hulls - but that is what I am thinking, not based on experience. I guess my advice would be to leave lots of play, all the way back to 20% if need be. I always set mine up so that I can position the batts so that I have from 25% - 33% and then play with it from there. In the stepped world, I am wondering if they like farther back???

Thanks for yr recommendation. What's about motor mounting position? Should it be more on the front or back? I browsed through other thread and some said it should be around the front step and placing battery on the back... Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

This is a Mono 1 type hull, A 4060 & 5s is way to much on these type hulls. Because their a Mono1 racing hull their very narrow at 180mm wide & youll just torgue roll the boat on the above setup.

As you have not ordered this puppy yet, I will suggest a different route which will cost less money, run very quick and above all be very stable. Steve sells a 25 inch boat with motor, speed control and most important, a proper drive train for $400. The 2 2s batts go on each side of the motor for perfect balance and you won't need the flood chamber which makes the perfect set up harder to attain. I also feel the carbon fiber aspect is over rated for the increased cost and yes, you will save money on shipping by buying at home. Lecture over, thanks for hearing my humble opinion. BG

Thanks for the warning. That is what I'm also worry about... I've never own the stepped mono before but I'm having the Deep V of similar dimension (25" Prince) and it run quite well with Feigao 540L 1890KV, 3300 mAh 5s and 40x52/3 GrimRacer. Does the Mono 1 type hull require the same setup as Deep V? Will it be ok with 540L size motor instead of 4060 Leopard? I'm more interested in running low KV with high volt as it seems to take less amp and lower temp.

I just want to try a different hull type as I'm having quite a number of Deep Vs already (41", 32", 25", 19", 16"). Also, none of them are with flood chamber but I'm pretty boring retrieving a flipped boat when running in rough water or racing with friend. And yes, OSE has many fine boats. I'm actually living in Bangkok, Thailand so the shipping cost from HK is cheaper. My only problem was with the local post office as my last order from HOR was delivered to wrong address and took me couple weeks to retrieve it. The HOR has a cheaper fiberglass version for this hull as well. I'm thinking of ordering it instead of the CF to try the stepped hull.

The stepped hulls are very efficient at moving through the water compared with v hulls but are not as happy with a bit off chop on the water but more than make up for that with the self righting as you can have a blast & not worry about flipping the boat. I think stepped hulls run better with higher kv & smaller props than the opposite to this. In Europe where they race Mono1 they use 5000kv - 5300kv on 2s .
