Yes I can be found guilty of running to close to shore. This video was a wake up acll for me. I posted it as a publice service.

So the implacation is I have to join a club to run my boats? Or set up a catch fence on public property? Well I'm working on the cub thing and setting up fences in the parks around here just won't work. If a lake isent public around here someone owns it. The insurance rates are so grossly inflated in this state no one would dream of letting you use there property. Even with your own insurance. We can save some typing by just being direct and leave out " getting @ things". IMO anyway.

Please don't "type words in my mouth". I never implied that you "have to join a club to run my (your) boats?" I was simply asking a question to better understand your post, and you position on the subject. Options and questions in public forms like this and others can be taken the wrong way very quickly. I was simply trying to increase my knowledge of your situation before offering my opinion.

However, I do have a recommendation and an opinion… These two organizations were created for a reason. Even though they are separated for certain reasons, I truly believe both they are looking out for the greater good. There is not a requirement to have a club in order to be a member of each group, but I will tell you the price of the membership has a lot to do with insurance. Pick the best organization that works for you and your area. I see a lot on these boards and others when a disagreement breaks out... everyone says "don't forget, we are playing with toy boats." Most forget they are POTENTIONALY DANGEROUS toy boats. Part of building this hobby relies on Organization, Structure, and Safety. It does not make a difference if pond is public or private, if someone gets hurt odds are you won't be allowed to run boats in that location ever again. No matter how fast or slow they are...

Eyekandy good to see you too… I’m on most boards, but I don’t post much. I tend to call myself a lurker…

My Apologies. Your comment was added to a context that annoyed me slightly. Text has a way of completely hiding the inflection of a word or statement. Add quickly reading and moving along with out full comprehension and there we have it. Although attitude was not lost in Taylor’s statement. Or maybe I was mistaken. At any rate I really need to join one or the other. One of the main reasons I’d rather run my boats in winter is there are less people out. Last but not least I do not consider these boats as toys. I never have. I wish more people felt like that.

See now this little exchange is being fueled by an hour & 10 minute wait to be seated @ the olive garden. Seems Mr SJFE has gotten into the miller lights on an empty belly....LOL. Good thing Mrs sjfe has a bun in the oven & is the designated driver. :-P

namba's requirements of 50' min assumes that your pond has a slope that would allow a boat to travel more than its length out of the water(a beach iow), if a boat cannot travel that far(to wit a bank about 30" high), one can have the markers as close as 30' to the shore...at the pond I run at(mazo WI) we could in theory have our buoys a mere 30' out...we do not and I've had my boat in lane one at the start of the turn and wind up in the weeds.
Still waiting for my boat to come in.it came in

I was almost hit by a boat back in November. The owner was running his boat directly to the shore because he was trying to get the speed on radar. Well needless to say the boat was capable of running 60-70 mph. I was probably 20-30 feet up the bank, inbetween some trees. As he was making the run towards him, he didn't turn the boat in time so the boat came flying up the bank straight at me. The only thing that kept the boat from hitting me was the table I had set up with all my stuff on it. Keep in mind that I was not only up the bank a decent ways, I was also the same distance down the bank if not further from where the boat left the pond.
