Hammer motor upgrade

Hey rcmaster,
I am doing a motor upgrade to my Hammer, I have this graupner 9.6 laying here, decided to stick it in the hammer. Someday I will look into SJFE mod surface drive. But for now it will get the 9.6 and 12 cells and a new paint job. will list it in boat building area if I do not mess it up.

my boat is older and has been through a few motors now, you are'nt bored with it already?
they handle great I know but just do not go fast enough!!
My son and I was messing around and we decided to paint it today, however the hull just was not clean enough so we ended up with a couple of fisheyes, but overall it looks much better so far. We just need to sand it out a bit and respray. The motor is out of it for now until we get the paint done. Will post some more when it looks better

Actually I haven't had it that long, but I plan to test out some different motors soon.

Here is a picture of my beauty. Last weekend when I went out I got 13.1mph with somewhat rough water. I have some new Ener-G 4600 Matched batteries in the mail so they should help a little on the speed.

Sorry it's inside, next time I go out I will get some pics on the water.

How did you measure the speed? I thought for sure they were faster. I usually run 6 or 7 cells nmh, sometimes I put in a 8 cell pack from my aquajet just to have fun. Changed out the car type speed controller to a jeti 300 that will handle 30 cells, but that won't happen. No water cooling on the esc but it never gets even warm. Love the way these handle, they turn like 180's or something at full speed. Suppose if it was to go faster it might not handle as well.

The aquajet was kind of handicapped this day, the original 8.4 700bb needed some attention so I put in a 9.6 700bb, it ran but not even close to what it had with the 8.4

Cool video, nice boats, and good song!

I used a GPS for the speed. Like I said, it was sorta rough water, much rougher than the water in your video. I am sure I can get 15mph on smooth water. I was using 6 cells. The circumstances weren't great for getting top speed. Next time I will go to a pond with smoother water and see how fast it goes.

Taking the aquajet out today cause it is just a beautiful virginia Saturday in the middle of february
trying a modified by me to fit 43.5 mm graupner prop, might be too much
have a smaller one but wanted to see if I could modify the bigger one to fit before I trashed the one I think will work the best. these are the screw on type but they would not clear the rudder, so drilled them through and retapped so they would go all the way on.

Nice looking boat man!Is that orange?Do you have any decal or paint trim ideas.I wish the proboats came in different color options.One thing i would point out with the gps speed is that it adds weight, so without the gps it is probably a little faster.You can measure off a distance and use a stop watch to see how long the boat takes to travel a between to points.There are tools like speed calculators on this sight just plug the numbers see what you get. You are right about the GPS weight, but I think it shouldn't do too much to affect it, but then again i could be wrong. The distance-time measure method is a bit hard to do and I am fine with the GPS so I will stick with the GPS. Yes, the paint is orange. It came with stickers but they don't fit properly and they easily rip.

Well, I burned up the piece of crap stock esc, so I put the Mamba in to try out. Man, this boat cannot handle power. I only got it up to 21.3mph. The rudder has a lot of slop in it causing the boat to be jerky at a certain speed. It was fun, though, since I could jump out of the water if I gunned it lol. I got some video of it, hopefully I'll get it edited and put up on the internet tomorrow. Sadly I ran over my sister's Zig Zag Racer 3 with it and I broke off one of the blades on the prop. lol
