Laying Carbon Fiber

I am getting started on a Delta Force 35" pirate, and want to know if there are any tips on laying carbon fiber. I have very little experience with the stuff & would like to know how I should get started.
If there is anyone out there that can help out with some ideas on making this look good, I'm all ears.

my best thaughts are put down a tinted (black ) coat of epoxy first then when it is tacky press the CF onto it to hold it in place after it has cured then follow up with subsequent coats of epoxy
