I haven't used a 2028 yet, but I think it would be an intelligent choice.

Have you considered the outrunner? Its 500kv and could be run on 12s to lower current draw a little. I have to imagine someone out there has ran one in a large mono...

      As far as prop shafts...
Once you choose your power configuration you should have a better idea of what prop you are going to run. The larger props fit 1/4" and the smaller ones fit 3/16".

The 2028 would be a great choice..............8s is kinda low for rpms. Either way you need 1/4 flex min...........use the step down to allow for greater prop choice.

If you go 3/16" stepdown shaft you can just use this sleeve to run 1/4" props as well

Not really a fan of outrunners....Going to go with the 2028 guys...Found the motor and Jacket in stock but what about the mount. Who makes one for 5" rails???

Just got back from picking up the hull.....WOOOOOW this thing is huge!!! Being my first Performance International I was very inpressed on the quality of the hull. Nice thick fiberglass, but I will be covering the underside of the hatch. Also the 5" rails and transom wood is glassed in very well! Here's a few pics....

I think these are the most reasonable options for a single motor app:

                  -Neu 2230
                  -Castle 2028
                  -Scorpion 5035

Im not sure how well the scorpion would do in that boat but I've always wanted to try one of those 5035's and its the most affordable motor on that list

I would keep the kv under 800 with any motor you get.
Hey Keith, on your big 50" mono, you were getting high 50's on 8s
don't you think the 730kv version on 10s would kick in a 56" hull?
and your temps were very low on that motor to..

If I remember correctly, I think I got 53 on 8s and close to 60 on 9s but 9s was a little much. After a short run the caps were hot, and the boat was already underpropped. The motor was cool during both runs, but it was my assumption that I was outside the efficiency range of the motor when I ran 9s and that had a lot to do with the caps getting hot. Those motors are awesome for the money, but I wouldnt go any bigger than the boat I had with a 5692.
                        Now...
The hul I had was a gasser style hull. It was wider and taller than the DF style hulls, and just all around more massive. That being said, my 50" mono actually measured like 46" or 47" from the transom to tip. I dont remember the exact measurement but when I sold it I removed the hardware and used a 48" box.
Brad's mono is 56"...another 10" long and I'm sure much more massive in all dimensions. I think its a pretty solid leap up in hull size and would require even more power.

I certainly see promise in Ben ( Fightercat ) and the amazing products he will have to come . A 17s ESC certainly has my attention

I have a 57" Apache powered by a Lehner 3080/7 but in the 12T trim so about 435kv on two banks of 12 cells . this is a very modest setup and it went well into the 10 - 12 minute mark for run time . the motor was sold and I will now install a 11T Lehner at 475kv in the quest for more speed . I got close to 50mph out of the old setup and only 80amps draw on average out of the cells , 100 amps peak .

Though this is not quite the direction you are going a properly thought out setup and with a Castle 2028 in my opinion would be a winning combination with a 50" Apache or similar
