for power I'm thinking of using a CC1717 on 5s that I have lying around
or a 5692 1340kv on 6s

1527 1.5d CC hydra 240, 5s2p and a BIG prop.
Handled EXCELLENT in the turns, but you cant really tell from this vid.
NEVER came close to flipping or hooking in the turns at WOT.

You'll definitely want to run the cells in the sponsons on the .21. It makes a difference with large 4s packs for sure.Originally posted by Rumdog View PostWhat's wrong with running the cells on the tunnel? Works great. Handles just as well as with them in the sponsons and they are simple to get in and out.

I've raced my SprintCat 40/60 with the 6S2P packs in the tunnel for over two years and it handles great on the 1/6th mile oval. In fact I've won half the races I've entered against sport hydros. It isn't always the boat with the highest speed which wins.
Putting the packs on the tunnel has the large advantage of being able to tie them down securely - note the straps in my cat holding them in. This can be more important than many think. Flip the boat at 60 mph and packs in the sponsons can fly loose and knock off the hatch, flooding the hull. This very thing happened last weekend to a club member's 10S mono - his were stuck outside the rails with Velcro, and a 50 mph flip sent his packs flying around inside the hull, damaging the hatch and flooding the hull.
I see not big advantage putting them in the sponsons, the boat is designed to have all the weight on the tunnel. Years ago when we raced Key West cats in the pool we soon found that putting the cells in the sponosn caused the boats to handle worse and flip more often. Moving them onto the tunnel cured the problem. Five cats were traveling over 35 mph on a tight triangular course with 70 foot straights and concrete walls on the outside - it was like driving formula R/C cars and demanded total concentration.

The only thing to watch then is pack height. Depending on the hatch you use, some 6S packs may hit the underside of the hatch.I really like the way your packs are on the tunnel, makes mounting them more secure...Ok this asnwers my question about having enough room...

Check my thread.

Gp to post #36. I put my batteries behind the motor. Works out great. I'm running 6S2P. Boat balances perfectly. No need to put the packs in the sponsons! The boat rides like it's on rails with my setup.
I don't believe you could get 5S packs in the sponsons. No way!Mini Cat Racing USA
