2 part urethane over krylon?

Anybody ever spray 2 part auto urethane clear on top of krylon?
I bought a used boat and am not sure what it was painted with, figure worst case it is krylon.
I will try a little test spot on the bottom before I spray the whole thing but I figure I'll try to find out if krylon would crinkle under the clear before I even try that.
The paint on it looks fine and the colour is great I just want a good clear over the decals, plus the urethane is super tough stuff. I've never had hatch tape peel up urethane.

urethane can be sprayed over lacquer, enamal and waterbourne paint

Ya I usually use lacquer on mine, this is Tiquemans Amsoil boat, he bought it second hand painted, just not sure with what!
I didn't want to kill the paint, it's not my favorite part of the build, this one looks good so I just want to clear coat it.

I've done a bit of trim on other boats using that auto color water based airbrush stuff, I'm not a painter so it was just some lines etc. It works fine under the urethane.
Thanks again, just need a warm day for it now! Could be a while. Thats ok I have a girl doing some custom artwork on a tele repro guitar body, kind of a escher type thing with leaves and flowers, going to urethane that as well.
Can get back to serious boat building, almost done putting a very old mandolin back together. This one is over 100 years old, beautiful mother of pearl and tortoise shell butterfly inlay on the top. Just gotta stick the top back on, torture the dogs with the smell of bubbling hide glue!

Good to know! I have wondered the same many times. I can get a reasonable rattle can job but then the rattle can clears seem to yellow like mad and are not very tough. I'd love to be able to use the 2 part poly!

thats awesome! im an amature luthier myself. self taught lol. the nice thing about urethane is you can spray it over anything. just make sure whatever youre spraying over is completely dry stay away from lacquers, you cannot spray them over enamal, you can spray enamal over lacquer tho. most people get that confused. best to stick with urethanes.

rattle can paints are ok, but you will never get a great clear job with them, at least nothing like you can get with urethane clear and a hvlp gun. ive used krylon with urethane clear many times with no problems

Guitars I usually do with nitro lacquer, this tele I want to protect the artwork.
LOL I try to avoid enamels, too long a drying time, I always stick with the same brand of paint, makes things easier when you know what to expect.
