I have a BJ 26, running with an SR3300T RX that has temp and RPM telemetry built in. I'm wondering where I should put the temp sensor to know if I'm going to cook something. I'm running 5s packs so I'm near the 21v limit of the ESC. I tried putting the sensor under the ESC, but that area never got above 75F (air temp was 75, and water was around 60). Should I measure the water temp in the cooling system?

I might suggest you do not use that RX in a boat....the marine RXs may be a better choice and the telemetry range in a boat will be very short with that ESC, that could explain your temperature readings.

Since the marine RX doesn't have telemetry, and I want that...I'm kinda stuck with that option or an aircraft RX. I haven't yet lost the telemetry data link, but the space I generally play in is not that big. Eventually I will be running it farther, but while tweaking it I won't be. And the space I'm at regularly, by my boat in the marina, is always going to be a limited space.
So...where do people generally read the temp when they post about having taken a temp reading?

I use that rx in my MG. I used the loop temp sensor and placed it around the caps on the esc back by the switch. I water-proofed the rx myself and made a little rx tray on the battery tray so I could get the short antenna out of the hull. I only went out of telemetry range once and the boat was a good distance away from me. The temps shot to the max set then when back in range picked up like normal. I haven't had any issues and have about 10 runs on my setup. All in it's pretty cool to be able to check the temps on the esc. This is the only hull to date I have used this rx in though. I use tactics or mr3000 & mr200s in all my other boats.

It's the stock esc I just opened the loop wrapped around the caps then used the little rubber slide adjustment to squeeze the loop tight around the caps. WIth the esc encased the way it is it's hard to get a good temp on anything besides the caps. On the seaking 120's and swordfish 120s you can get temps on the esc body and the caps real easy. I usually shoot temps at both places the body and the caps.

The data collected on the link is with a eagletree data logger. I have never used the Spektrum rpm sensor.
