Ive got a pair of Turnigy 120s in a 32" cat. I had been running them at thier max voltage (6S) for almost a year now and Im in no way complaining about whats taking place. Ive already ordered the replacement and have installed it.
So heres the issue. I ran the boat for the first time on 4S a few days ago. It was not impressive at all. 540 10 XLS, I thought would have done mid 40s perhaps. I dont think it was going 25. On teh second lap I noticed the hull was riding sideways in the water. The back end was walking badly in one direction.. kinda wierd for running counter rotatin props. Then all the sudden liek a turbo kicked in, and the boat startin moving nicely as I suspected it should have. It turned about a lap and a half and kicked back down to half speed. I brought it in and noticed the starboard motor, when you tried to hit the throttle, makes a very bad studdering noise and then starts to go. Then when it does go, its not at full throttle. I brought it in to the bench and began testing to find out it is in fact the esc.
It does not smell funny, look abnormal etc etc. I took apart and cleaned the connector at the servo end yes I did check the splitter as I did all the trial and error w/ only one esc at a time plugged into the rx, bypassing the splitter. I dont know enough about the guts of an esc to know what it might be doing.
Any thoughts? Im not worried if I cant get it going again, Ive just never seen an esc do this. In my experiences, it either works, or it doesnt.. nothing in between.

first I turned off the LVC, still wouldnt work right, so off the shrink wrap came. Im decent w/ electronics, took a few classes, built some things from kits (phones, water sensor, strobe lights) so its not virgin territory but Ive never attempted to work on an esc. 
So theres two boards, this I already knew. What I did not know, is that the upper smaller board is soldered permanently to the lower larger board. I examined it for several minutes and I assumed it was just plugged into it w/ one of those micro bars w/ 10 or fifteen pins down each side. I pried on it gently w/ a flat head screw driver while watching it closely and realized it was soldered. The pins (I think 4 down each side) are bent over and soldered to the board. How, I have no idea. But I did hear a small crack so Im assuming I destroyed it. So I hooked it all back up, motor, esc, external bec battery, plug in the neg, plug in the positive and 
... now my hands smell like fried esc.. as does my hobby room... I hope it doesnt venture out into the living room or Ill hear it
