How to install thrust bearing on NEU??

I just got some 5mm thrust bearings for 2 NEU 1515 motors, my question is how to install them? When I put it on the motor shaft and slide the coupler on there is 1-2mm of distance inbetween the thrust bearing and the coupler?? Do you just use some sort of shims? Any one with pictures or suggestions?

well one could trim the motor shaft...but to answer your Q yes a 'shim' will work. I've been making 'thrust plates' out of 1/16" Al plate(iirc roughly 0.75" x 1.25").

The right way to do it is to cut the shaft like Rex suggested, but remember that may reduce the value of the motor if you want to sell it in the future?

I cut 2-3mm off the shaft, it wan't to help with temps and power. I installed it to keep the motor's bearings from taking the load! I will try to post a few pict's later today.

So the basic purpose is to reduce stress on the motor?

While all that is true... the main reason I run a thrust bearing between the coupler and motor is to keep from pushing the forward endbell off the motor!! The only thing keeping it on is silicone!

All my new Neu motors are getting screws installed in them from the factory (Thanks to Brian... )... but I'll still continue to use thrust washers... Just makes sense...
