From Neu. This past summer I had a 1521 in for repair and I asked about using one of the CC motors as a replacement. The 1717 was guesstimated at about being the same by the repair guy. The 1717 is larger in diameter, but as long as a 1521. But there is a difference in stator iron quality and rotor construction. Basically the larger can dia Vs the better quality materials equaled out power output. I only wish I had a dyno to see if this would be an accurate assumption.
Nope. Thats an assumption you get max amps at max voltage. Thats called surge watts. Not continous. Thats what we are talking about. Different critters and never to be confused with each other.
That is gonna be funny.I was gonna call you back, but figured you were passed out.Ill stop by after work.Told her Bob painted my mono too and Im bringing them both home tomorrow.Cant wait to see and hear her reaction to 2 hulls!!!!!!

I've had 1520 castle/neu's and 1521 neu's in the same hull....(df33) Those felt close but I think the 1520 had more umph.... No dyno just performance based, I have to say if I was a betting man the 1717 is def a more powerful motor.... There is a good chance the repair guy at NEU was looking for a little job security as his brother Lung Woo, lmao, is building the castle/neu's in a far off Place.
All in all though with all these castles out there we need someone to dyno these puppies!
Jason I am gonna have to agree with you here although I have no real proof. This 1717 is huge compared to a 1521! I'm sure that the 1717 is not quite as efficient as the Neu but come on now....I think that 1750w is way under-rated for this motor. Can somebody explain the formula for the amps x volts= watts? That means that the 1518,1520,1717 all rated for 120a have the same wattage provided they all have the same voltage applied??? I'm confused.

The 120 amps they describe is the max amperage rating. But the problem is folks think thats the rating all the way up to max voltage. Its not. Its been my experience with motors that if you use the max voltage rating, then multiply the max amp rating you get max wattage like the formula above. The motors sustained rating is then approx one half of that number. Thats from the Neu web site.
The max wattage of a 1717 off the Castle web site is 3000 watts. Half that is 1500 watts. The max wattage of the Neu 1521 is 3500 watts. Half that is 1750 watts.

John do you have a link to where you are getting the 1717 specs off Castles website... I can't find this info.... thanks again gents, even though we are going back and forth on he Castle vs. Neu debate I wanna wish you all a Happy New Year!!!

I use the motor data page as it seems to be all thats available. Wish CC had a motor data sheet we could down load.
