70 mph Insane Hydro ?

Since my FE-30 is a UL-1 powered LSH oval racer, my props and speeds don't apply here. The V900s are SAW props which when set up right will run on the tips, reducing drag. "Rounding the ears" and back-cutting destroy the advantages of these specialized props. Lift can be reduced without too much compromise by very slight cupping of the leading edges near the tips. But the lift is what you want in a SAW prop to help counteract the lifting of the bow.....

I ran into the 90s with a v940/3 on an old 12-cell SAW racer several years ago. Held the Q Offshore SAW record for 6 years with a v937/3. There are better oval props for certain, but these work for SAW without modification.

what is your strut setup?
Are you using a flat or round bottom?

I'm using a round bottom strut, the Insane hardware that's made for this hull. The bottom of my strut is 7/8'' below the bottom of the hull and is set to 0 deg.

I have accumulated my props over the last few years. It's great to have many options for each boat to find out what works best. My boats are all similar is size and power so the props work for more than one setup. I probably have 30 + or - hrs into sharpening, balancing, and polishing all of them.

The Insane hardware kit i received had a flat bottom strut.I swapped it out for the round to get more prop in the water.I cant run mine at zero deg as it hops like a rabbit on meth.

What is the angle of your strut?
Mine is parallel with the afterplane of the hull, I assume that is 0 deg on a hydro.

No. Place the hydro on a flat table resting on the sponsons and the strut. Adjust the strut to be dead flat on the table. That is zero degrees. You can run a degree or two of up at the prop end if needed.

So does that mean that you are running the bottom of the strut at a negative 4 degrees? I would think that would lift the back and cause even more hopping????
My hull is hopping with the strut running flat and I'm trying to get rid of the hop....

The hopping comes from too much lift if the strut is at Zero degrees. Funny I ran 70MPH on 2S with the Zephyer 27.

That means I've been running the strut a few deg negative which would explain why the V937/3 wasn't working well. It does run perfect with the strut the way I have it for all other props, no hopping, no blowovers, no stuffs, amps are good, and speeds are fast. I'll mark the strut where I have it so I can go back to it later, but I'll adjust it to 0 deg when using the V series prop. Thanks

Kevin,with all the props i have tried it hops like crazy at 0 deg.
I know it makes no sense having the strut the way i do but it works.
I am going to start adjusting back slightly to 0 deg to see what happens.

According to Jeff at Insane Boats, the best way to get rid of the hop is to take some of the lift out of the prop rather than going too far on the strut adjustment...
