Thanks for the recommendation. I suppose the hand held units allow to check the temps of all your major components. I've just been looking at a unit at Great Hobbies, that conects to the electronics and measures peak temperatures while the thing is running.
By the way, I'm fairly new to the RC world and this site but I've read many of your posts with great interest. I love boats and got interested in RC boating quite by accidnet after we bought a proboat miniv for my oldest step son for his b/d this April. We own a 26' veesport express cruiser and get out on the water whenever we can. I enjoy running the miniv from the swim platform but was absolutley spellbound when I first ran my sv27 from out there. It is an amazing little boat.A dream not pursued is not worth holding.

Thanks and welcome to OSE. I use a similar handheld unit and it works great. For measuring while you run, I have a DX3S with telemetry that will report the tempertures to the radio while the boat is running. Their are also eagle tree which a lot of people have and love. I have not purchased one yet, but plan to in the future.Originally posted by johnmaclean View PostThanks for the recommendation. Welcome aboard, John
Just to get a good handle on your setup, you'll want to check these temps : Batteries, connectors, speed control + caps, motor can and both endbells. An on-board system like the EagleTree could do all of these; I've done some of these plus an rpm sensor, and an on-board LCD readout so you don't have to download to the computer. Spaghetti wire city !!
Get a handheld, untape & scan & keep it simple.

Thanks, This really is an excellent site. I think I will get a hand held and start there. But for the shipping charges to Canada it would be my primary source for components. Love the sv27 and hope to have it running agin before my big boat gets hauled out of the water for the winter. It sometimesOriginally posted by properchopper View PostWelcome aboard, John

doubles as a rescue boat . . . just pull up anchor and let her drift towards the disabled RC boat.

If you do a search here on OSE you can find some good info on these type guns. There are some basic rules to follow as they have their own set do's and donts. Bright shiny surfaces will give your erroneous readings, the guns are subject to EMI interference, etc. But one things for sure. They are the best bang for the buck!Originally posted by johnmaclean View PostLooking fora source for a temperature meter. I am assuming that they are an infrared device.

shipping hassle
Thanks for the tip. I registered an account at Harbour Freight and put one of these in my shopping cart along with a small digital multimeter but when I tried to arrange shipping, discovered that Canada is not on their list of destinations.Originally posted by wizard122 View PostHeres the one I like and only $10

Go to any local automotive store like Pep Boys, they have pen sized ones for around $20.00 and they work great!

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I can almost see a NAPA auto parts store from my kitchen window.Originally posted by SweetAccord View PostGo to any local automotive store like Pep Boys, they have pen sized ones for around $20.00 and they work great!A dream not pursued is not worth holding.
