    Advice on a Hull

    Hello Guy's
I have a local guy that is interested in a trade for some camera stuff I no longer use for a custom boat with custom paint.
I have never built a boat before (have a BJ26) what do I need to look for when I go look at this boat?
All I really know is that it's 54" mono hull, I'd like to start a winter project and just don't want to get stuck with something thats no good. Value of my camera stuff is about $300.00, and as for the boat it's just the hull with a custom paint job nothing inside yet no holes either.

At 54" long you will need to dump a heap of cash on it if going FE, hulls like this get used for twin Gas motors. And not that fast with them

You may need something like a little screamers outrunner a swordfish hv and two 6s lipo packs to run in series for 12s. That's close to $700 just in electrics so with the $300 your trading for $1000 and you still need hardware, motor mount, coupler, flex cable, radio system, coupler, props and some other stuff im sure I forgot.

      Something like this Andy?

That looks like a dumas 38kv hull with a really weird (beauty is in the eye of the beholder) hatch cover on it. These hull new do sell rather well, but that is because it is a beautiful looking scale scarab hull with a scale cockpit that you build up. Seats, windshield and hand railings. Used they seem to go much cheaper, but market conditions do change. If you like the paint job, that would be the only thing that would even make it close in value. I do not like the hatch and I have a custom light 54" hull sitting out in the garage right now that I built for gas years ago.

The hulls are solid, but it is going to take a lot of power. Used to have one, the hull alone is like 9 pounds. Ran single gas power in it, homelites and zenoahs when they came out. Nice boats, would run about 40 with a zenoah. More of a sport boat than a race boat.

If you like the scarab look, there are other options out there. I am going to be starting a post on a 40" scarab that I am building. Hull is ALOT lighter. I know, I know, you want the weight. But I would rather run extra batteries in a sport boat for extended run time.

        My $0.02, Brian
