New Insane FE hydro, or Phil Thomas Stealth hydro?

Yep. I asked Phil about the hull finish and pinholes. He said the finish and seams should be excellent with very few pinholes.

Thanks for the pics! Looks like you've been working on it pretty good. Also looks like somebody found your camera!! It will look really clean with the drop tub all painted up along with the rest of the boat. I like the servo placement but wonder where the esc will end up.

What hardware do you have on the back of it? And can you post some pics of the underside? I feel like I made the right decision getting the FE30 but this is going to be really nice too. I'm anxious to see you guys get them running!

Excellent! thanks for the pics! Do you have a link to where you got the CF servo pushrod? Is it the one that Phil suggests in the instructions?

I've been in no hurry to finish it and have alot of projects going on so I only work on it a little at a time. The hatch fits better than it looks in the pictures and was not set on right in the rear. I spend more time thinking about how I want to arrange the inside than actually working on it. I have yet to see one of these all rigged to get ideas from.

Amazing how the threat of violence motivates my kids. I wonder about the esc placement too. It will either go between the batteries on a platform, to the right rear of the motor mount or just inside the opening to the right sonson. The hardware is from OSE- Speedmaster 21 flat bottom hydro strut (ros-21-strut), Speedmaster mini rudder (ros-mini-rud). The carbon fibre pushrod I found at my LSH. As far as directions with the boat they don't really tell you very much, pretty much just used them to set my coffee cup on.

I picked up the motor and esc from v-spec. It looks very much like the Seaking/ Turnigy 180.

Yea if there is an opening on the other side I think you might do well getting it in there. It's kind of big like the Turnigy 180 too. If you were to use a motor mount like the normal OSE mount I think you would end up with a lot more room and could get the esc on the side if the balance would be right with it there.

That spot inside the sponson may be my best (only) bet, plus it will be right on my COG.

Don't forget flotation! You will need 29 cubic inches of foam for every pound of boat weight. Several PT hulls have gone to the bottom in our club due to the lack of enough foam - which is tough to put into the PT hulls due to their design. For nitro no problem as they seldom cut into the inner hull. Once you do, the boat may no longer float if it fills with water. That's an advantage to the Insane, much easier to stick in lots foam.

I know that insane has a reputation for a heavy gel coat. My gen 2 gas cat is really thick. And got chipped pretty good from rubbin/racing. IMO it's not aesthetically pleasing, especially that forward shot posted...looks just like a rigger.

OTOH the Phil Thomas hull can be coated as thin/thick as you like with the raw finish. And his standard sport 21 runs very well.

I still don't care for the amount of venting that the insane has on the sponsons and am a bit disappointed that Phil went this way with his hull. But at least he didn't take the cutouts as far as the insane hull.
