Why not cut that prop down a bit?
Large prop low pitch or small high pitch?

I like to find a prop that has sufficient thrust cone for the application and ride characteristics close to what I want then pitch up and modify for more/less lift and more rpm. I usually keep pitching up till I go past the point of good sense and then make another just back a bit.

resurrecting this old thread with a question .
the op says What is the difference between running say a large prop (1.4 pitch) versus a smaller prop (1.6 pitch)
i thought 1.6 was a larger pitch prop? he mentions 1.4 being larger and 1.6 being the smaller prop .have i had this wrong all this time ?
another question if i may .i am running a 1600kv leopard motor in my pursuit with a x645 prop .best i can get is 55mph .someone said i should run a x447 because they get 63mph with the same setup running that prop .but the 447 has less total pitch how can it go faster?volantex vector pro ,proboat veles 29 , traxxas spartan, hobbyking/tfl pursuit ,ft009 with rescue rigging

He was comparing a larger diameter prop with a 1.4 pitch ratio to a smaller diameter prop with a pitch ratio of 1.6. You are correct in your understanding, the larger the pitch ratio, the more total pitch, for any given diameter.Originally posted by boatsrnew2me View Postresurrecting this old thread with a question .

The 645 may be too much of a load for the motor (didn't mention the can size which can determine how much torque the motor has) limiting the RPM's its actually putting out. Despite the 447 being a smaller total pitch prop on paper, it may allow your motor to run in its sweet spot, with more RPM's, i.e. more speed. Swapping props and measuring the results is probably my favorite part of this hobby.Originally posted by boatsrnew2me View Postanother question if i may .i am running a 1600kv leopard motor in my pursuit with a x645 prop .best i can get is 55mph .someone said i should run a x447 because they get 63mph with the same setup running that prop .but the 447 has less total pitch how can it go faster?Vac-U-Tug Jr (13mph)

the 447 is bigger diameter but less total pitch then the 645 .
645=1.77x1.6=2.832
447=1.85x1.4=2.590...............less total pitchvolantex vector pro ,proboat veles 29 , traxxas spartan, hobbyking/tfl pursuit ,ft009 with rescue rigging

I don't have any spare Octuras at the moment, but OSE has S&B 447's in stockOriginally posted by boatsrnew2me View PostThe 645 may be too much of a load for the motor (didn't mention the can size which can determine how much torque the motor has) limiting the RPM's its actually putting out.
