They are experiencing a "middle class" revolution, not unlike the US in the 50's & 60's. Much potential for turmoil. They won't work for nothing if they can get more. I'm sure the Internet has played it's part in spreading worker knowledge around too!

Look into the history of manufacturing in Taiwan, it used to be the cheapest place to have things made, now it's one of the more expensive.

I'm really curious as to how things are going to balance out globally.

I live in China and buy from the USA. The items that I buy mainly include USA originned products, like Octura hardware, Hughey flexcables, MRC cooling jackets, Neu motors..... RC boating is a minority hobby, those products I just can HARDLY find domestically, or can find but with ridiculous price. From the day I happened to know OSE, all my boating life has changed! Better would be to simply ask them why they didn't return after CNY.

My guesses:

1) The weather is better (no more Olympics) so farming is OK.

2) They have enough money from working until CNY that they don't need more right now.

The vast majority of their population is "subsistence" living, whether on a farm or in a factory. The culture does not yet reward personal achievement - something that 60+ years of Communism created and is only just starting to change. (It's also why they have no moral compass regarding IP, imho).
