Thoughts on Swap Shop Change

Due to a couple of bad apples being bad traders I was thinking of a change in the "Swap Shop" area. I'm thinking that maybe we should restrict users selling items to a minimum number of previous posts before listing a selling item. I've seen this on other boards. But I'm not sure if this can be done with VB Forums, so I have started a thread on their board, asking the question.

Let me know your thoughts. Good or bad all are appreciated....

A couple of thoughts...other boards have a rating system. I have sold on RC Universe and have a 100% feedback rating by my buyers so they know I'm a decent trader. Another thought I also think is a good one is the escrow account, but it might be a bit difficult to administer.

I vote for the trader rating system..that means more than anything IMO...as someone with 500 posts could screw you just as likely as someone with 5 posts...but if they have positive feedback/ratings from trading that means more I think.

Of course first sale or purchase to get that feedback rating going is still going to be a chance taken, but you really can't avoid that if someone with 500 posts sells something for the first time either.

Perhaps if the moderators actually deleted posts without pics people might actually get the hint and follow the basic rule of POST A FRIGGIN PIC OF WHAT YOU ARE SELLING, as per the rules.

Its not rocket science folks.

Not following that simple rule is one of the main causes of some friction.

On my VBulletin board we made it so you had to have 50 posts to post a new thread in the for sale section. So you get people who sign up and will spam 50 posts and the 51st is an item for sale. Bad idea...

I think many of these scams can be stopped by making it a requirement that ANYONE posting an item for sale post a picture of the item for sale with their screen name and date clearly wrote on a piece of paper in the picture. That insures the seller actually has the item...

I would advise anyone buying from someone you are not 100% comfortable with to get their phone number and give them a call before buying.

Lastly I advise anyone using pay pal to pay with a major credit card. That way if you DO get scammed you can file a charge back!

I think with E Bay you can still do private sales?

So they would have to run it thru e bay to complete the transaction...

Its my opinion that the number of posts won`t help at all to stop fraud in the forum.Its up to the buyer to make sure he`s dealing with a reputable person and make his own decision based in the best of facts available at the moment.Me,for instance,if i see low posts on a new guy selling, i try to avoid it.But if the item is too good to let go i make sure the seller sends me a Paypal invoice with detailed info on what he`s selling me.Also make sure he`s got a "VERIFIED" Paypal account,meaning his bank account backs the Paypal account.So if you file a claim against him it`ll be easier for Paypal to get your money back.
Some times "we" get into the heat of buying something fast so no one else gets a chance to it and forget to check on all this.It have happened to me and have taken the risk.Almost lost some $$ on one but digged info on the seller and put it to work on my behalf with good results.
All in all its up to the buyer to take the risk and all precautions possible on any trade.
As PM dealing i do it a lot,but not before stating in the thread that i have interest in the item and tell seller to check PM for everybody to see.Why i do it? `cause i hate people seeing how i deal and what im offering....this is not ebay in any way and don`t want to start a bidding frenzy over something i wanna buy.Thats why you cannot see who`s(user names) bidding on ebay anymore....as there was another war going on behind curtains,buyers contacting each other in a badly manner.
This is something we can spend months dealing about,and still come to no conclusions.I think its up to Steve and the moderators to read all suggestions and decide if something is gonna change or not.So guys,just take all precautions and don`t close a deal and paypal the $$ in 2 minutes flat.I see this a lot,............................Just my 02cents,............Albert

I used to get kinda bent about a item selling with no one posting about it on the thread. but you have to realize this might not be the only place the item is for sale at. and this is not eBay the seller doesn't have to sell it to you or me if he don't want to. you as a buyer are not "owed" anything. we have all lost out on good deals and it does stink. but im sure most of us have got a few also.

P.S i would not like to c some kinda rating system in place. i have been a long time member of a PC forum i just don't post a lot. and the way they have it set up after like 4years i still cant sell anything lol.

Just a general rule of thumb...it sure is nice when folks update their original post indicating the status of the items for sale. It's a real pain to scroll through multiple messages to try and decipher if the item is still available or not.

Totally agree! I always keep POST #1 updated on my items for sale. It would be even better if we could just delete the whole thread when our item sells.

Keeping post #1 updated is definetly the way to go. The first thing someone would see when going to that thread would be the status of the item being sold. ie: pending payment, sold, price reduced etc etc.

The reason not deleting a post is if there is a poblem with the transaction after reciept of the item.


So its agreed that the number of posts will not stop problems.

I like the idea of immediately deleting a post without a picture.
That will be implemented.
I also like the idea of a picture with the post and a date on the picture.

This is an awsome idea. That way nobody can post a pic of the item for sale when it was in new condition vs. its current condition, if different.
