do 3 blade props need to be balanced?

If the props are raw, then they need sharpening and balancing, regardless of 2 or 4 props as long as they are raw. But you can get S/B props from OSE.

well i got a grim racer prop.... i assume it is raw

Grims look pretty nice from the package but they still need to be a thinned more and sharp as well as balanced.

BALANCE, BALANCE and BALANCE, Grim and others like prop shop sell nicely tumble polished props, they will tell you they are balanced , this is ABSOLUTE BULL CRAP !!! The most unbalanced 3 blade prop I have ever had the misfortune to have to do is a Grim !! and the worst 2 blade a Prop Shop. Once it is balanced then SHARPEN, SHARPEN and SHARPEN. Make sure you get it nice and sharp where the blade leaves the hub, makes for a great difference in prop walk issue's
