Easyout tap worked great. Used the small 5/64" size.

Yeah, I tried that, but it is the perfect storm of stripped out and in between hex sizes to make the next size work, metric or english...Originally posted by tiqueman View Post
I usually just free hand drill them. Id often have that happen on my gas boat drive dogs.
Or sometimes you can get the next size up in the opposite set, meaning if its metric, go up one in standard, and sometimes... sometimes, you can get enough bite. I think Ive had that work twice out of numerous tries.

You can drill it then use a small easyout. If the threads are shot then go one size larger and re-tap it.

Stripped hex set screw for coupler
Hi,
I have an old boat I use for spare parts-- I need to get the coupler off the motor shaft, but the hex screw is stripped. Any nifty way to remove it? Was thinking about drilling it out, but I don't have a drill press and I'm not sure I could do it with a freehand drill. Let me know what you think,
