Two lap record beater?

Hi guys. I am looking at building a fast two lap boat. The goal is to set the fastest two lap time, target 22 seconds.

Ok so let's 'set the scene' so to speak.
I am in New Zealand and the current fastest two lap time of any class is 24.06 sec. ( B hydro, Zipkits)
My current fastest two lap time was a 8255 hull (same mould as my carbon one) but 9 years older and f/g) on 8s. 26.161
Q hydro 26.999 sec.(full carbon 8255 hull 10% smaller than 1/8)
My ML GP 310, 27.969 sec.
My 1/8 ('72 U7 Note Dame, built from plan) 27.550 sec.
I have also a SGX Eagle rigger, converted to electric on 8s. I haven't done a two lap time with it yet.

Our permanent measured oval course is 292 M on the bouy line, 100 M straights, 15 M radius.
We also have a laser timing system.

So I'm thinking a rigger will be the best weapon, and my thoughts so far are a P size (and kv), or slightly larger, running 6s.
I have plans for a number of riggers, Zipkits, Keps.
I can build from scratch, kit, whatever. Budget will be limited and I will utilise as much of what I have as far as motors, esc, etc. Plenty of props.
This will be a longer term project, and I am quite prepared to work at it over time to get there.

So I am looking for suggestions, thoughts, ideas, actual set ups etc, what should I build???

A quick look at the NAMBA two lap records shows a variety of hull types that ran 24 second 2 lap records. I think a well done P rigger could easily run that speed. Below is the information on Brian Buaas' P 140 mph straight line record holder. I would run rear sponsons on a 2 lap boat. I heat race the same boat with a lot milder ESC and motor.

That is one fast and well set up tunnel.

I might build a KEPS rigger then. I can keep it a reasonable budget build that way. It will take a year or 3 to get there I think.

That is an ambitious target, especially trying to bring the two-lap time down from 24 seconds to around 22. With the 292 m course and those relatively tight 15 m radius turns, I agree that cornering stability will probably be just as important as outright top speed. A rigger seems like an interesting direction, particularly if you can keep the setup light and make good use of the equipment you already have.

I would be interested to see how the SGX Eagle performs on 8s first, as that could give you a useful baseline before starting a completely new build. Prop selection, acceleration out of the turns, and keeping the boat settled on the straights could make a big difference. It sounds like a great long-term project, and the laser timing system should make testing different setups much easier.

The SGX is doing 114 kph and I will give that a crack next year. I would run it on more cells but it just doesn't have room for them. A smaller 4s rigger is likely to be faster. I can race the SGX against the gas sport hydros though!
