Me and friend who is a HI POWER model rocket junkie built 2 identical rockets to test the strength of the Great stuff and the 2 part urethane foam. I used Great stuff he used the good stuff, guess which rocket is still flying.... not mine. mine is scattered all over the Pawnee National Grass Lands in Northern Colo. both rockets broke Mach 1.

Great Stuff isn’t any different than most products sold these days. It’s possible to end up with a bad batch of just about anything. I’ve had Krylon that wouldn’t dry, silicone adhesive that wouldn’t set-up, & two part epoxy that stayed as soft as bubble gum when cured. The ideal situation is to pretest everything , even though in a pinch, that’s not always feasible.

Fact ??? ... & how much research have you done to prove that Great Stuff (when applied properly) provides no reinforcement to a hull? Or did I totally misunderstand that statement?

Only crap seems to be "Great Stuff". I have tried it a couple times and it cured fine as I did read directions but as far as adhering it was touch and go. I like that you can cut with a stake knife for shelving for rx and such. Kinda cool in that aspect. It has its place but not what I would use to fill a boat. Maybe sponsons of cat in the front or "V" hull as in my case. Be easy gents. I know that you know that I know... everything.

yes you did sorry about that, All foam will add some structural strength, just not as much as the 2 part polyurethane. some race cars (SCC) even used it in frame rails and body structures to stiffen the chassis. So did some local drag racers here....

I emailed the DOW company a few years ago, after I crashed my hydro and found soggy foam and mold in it. and asked them about the water integrity and why it had mold on it. They said " while it is water resistant it was never designed for long term emersion, I highly recommend a 2 part marine grade polyurethane foam for your application". Sincerly etc.........

If "great stuff" really was great stuff for adding structural integrity wouldn't DOW market the heck out of that aspect? I wouldn't think DOW would ignore a potential market.

It's super handy. I get that. Cheap too. Well, cheap compared to the marine crap.

My Sport 40 is poly stem to stern too. That thing is pig. Never weighed it though. It's fast enough.

As far as I am concerned great stuff (or any other foam product) is good for flotation only in case of a catastrophic event. It was never intended for structural strength or as a substitute for a water tight hull. There are much better ways of dealing with these issues.

Great stuff is not and i was advised not to use it. Fortunately i put it in an old hull.
